It offers convenience and cheapness, which you can hardly blame people for taking advantage of. The downside is that small, independent businesses can get put out of business, discouraging entrepreneurship. On the other hand, it's very good for the consumer.

Personally I don't like it much; I'm wary of it becoming a monopoly. Moreover, it's indicative of a society driven by consumerism.

People act in self-interest. I suspect most consumers support Walmart because they can buy what they want cheaply all in one place. Most independent businesspeople don't support it because it could force them to move or put them out of business. Most people don't consider the impact of what they're supporting on other people, but only how it could benefit themselves.

they treat their employees like shit, drive out small independent stores, and get most of their products made by slave-labor. if you can't afford to shop anywhere else, i understand... but i refuse to shop at wal-mart. i'm not saying i'm perfect and that everything i buy is completely ethical, but wal-mart is one of the worst offenders and easy for me to avoid.

Walmart is killing small businesses and choking the world. Fuck globalism and fuck walmart. You want a stable economy? Than stop relying on 104592018740/91739s of foreign countries for things you can make in your own country. You're supporting the economic slavery of others and fucking the American working and middle classes when you shop at Walmart.

    Walmart is like Starbucks.

Both kill local businesses. Walmart makes "slaves" out of people in "third world countries" and Starbucks isn't fair trade among other things. Starbucks is allover the world dragging along its unhealthy crap. Walmart is apparently the top company in the world (yikes!) Walmart is allover this country, but not in NYC so maybe there's still hope. The franchise has thankfully not gone international. A perfect example of Walmart's bullshit is when South Park had the episode where they went around trying to destroy "The Heart of Walmart". There was another point mentioned in there. It showed how someone could start a company and if the company is a success it starts to grow bigger and the company eventually starts branching out. It's a never-ending cycle.

There's not much you can do except "boycott" those companies.

It has gone international, Walmart has branched out to England kind of. I'm pretty sure they own ASDA, which is big over here:/ Although as far as I'm aware, they aren't known so much for directly damaging small businesses, or at least not compared to Tesco. So I guess that's a bit better, although not by much.

I despise the company so much that I didn't want it go international. It seems they have plans for world domination:/

They say the reason it recks business is becuase they go to the manufactuer companies and say if you do not drop prices for us we are going to tell all the other businesses you gave us a bad deal and youll go broke . So the manufactuers drop the prices very low for walmart even though they lose money becuase they dont make a profit and the locol stores sell it at a higher price becuase they buy it for regulaur price from manufactuar . So the small business can not compete . However as it is siad " busniess is business " .

Never considered the manufacturer's role. I think the main effect it has on small businesses is it's pricing. Businesses run on demand, and if two businesses are both supplying the same product or service, chances are one's gonna lose. And since smaller businesses really can't compete in terms of pricing etc., they're the ones who fail.

I think customers also need to be cautious about how bigger businesses effect them and their community. Yes, large businesses make shopping cheap and easy, but many are gaining more and more dominance in terms of market share. This can be very bad for the customers, and even the government discourage this, because it gives these businesses more and more control over the customers.

When it comes to coffee, it's best to do your research and make it yourself. If I knew then what I know now about starbucks I would've never started drinking their shit.

Oh I know I been to them and other coffee places I also knew they were using bugs in thier food . Long as thier is not poo in the drinks I do not care look at all the things we put in pre packaged soda cookie and all this other krap we eat . It isnt worse than most the stuff we put in out body also I prefere the quick pick up gastation coffee that you press the button and I am not very good at making coffee so . They also put all this krap in our meat and clone our apples . Nothing is really healthy but we have to eat something ?

His dislike of Walmart is normal. Small businesses usually don't stand a chance when a Walmart gets built nearby: Walmart is much bigger with more items in stock and they sell them for a lesser price. I remember when the other towns in my neighborhood were getting walmarts. People objected, but the people of Walmart muscled their way in anyway. Some of the small businesses had to move to a different location to keep making money or just closed down completely. Personally, I don't mind Walmart. If I can get the items for a lesser price there, then I'm going to keep going there.
