Is it normal to hate this attitude?

I hate the "self-esteem generation" idea. If you're not sure what it is, then google it.

I utterly despise this misguided concept. Parents telling their kids that they are always special and they will always love them and blah blah blah. It's RIDICULOUS! Most people in our society have almost nothing relevant about them and are worthless to humanity as a whole. This attitude is partly responsible for promoting the arrogance of everyone in our current world. It disgusts me.

Unless they have earned the right to society's respect, people should not value themselves.

I feel like society shouldn't determine someone's worth. That seems like a very capitalistic ideal that makes people think "if I'm not able to uphold the system better than other people, then I'm worthless." which obviously isn't true. Everyone has potential within them and they should realize that without basing their standards off of their society.

I kind of find the major arrogance a problem too. Honestly I feel like people should be personally taught that the world's not just based on them and their opinions and that the world is a lot bigger than them or their ideology.

There was a whole generation of Americans raised to believe that everybody who participated in team sports were winners and nobody ever kept score. No losers at all, each and every member of both teams got a trophy every game they played. A whole generation was taught that there is no point in trying to do well, because the reward for excellence is exactly the same as doing nothing at all. Brilliant!
You know who those poor, misguided children are today? They are the fools who make up the rank and file of the Tea Party!

I mean, yeah. I get what you're saying, people shouldn't be taught to be arrogant little shits but I don't think anyone (apart from like murderers and pedos maybe) deserves to feel like absolute shit about themselves either, and believe me I know how that feels. There's probably a balance somewhere.

Arrogance is a problem and should not be boosted. However I find that often it can actually make people more of a jerk if they weren't given enough love. It makes them think that they only need to care about themselves because nobody else will, and that they're success makes them better people instead of being grateful.
Whereas when you know someone will love you no matter what, you're not afraid of being humble. You donn't have too fear being crushed if you show weakness.
It seems counter intuitive, I know. It's like the huge strong guy who's super peaceful, because he doesen't have to proof anything.

Of course there are some spoiled brats, and when you fuck up someone should tell you, so you can learn from the experience. People who don't care at all what you do don't love you, no matter what they say. There's a difference between calling people out on their shit and validating them as a person.

I don't care how high someone's self esteem is. As long as I get to jam sharp, unwashed dental tools down their throat and forcefully pull their teeth out without anaesthetic.

You are an excellent example of intrinsic self-esteem. You feel highly important about the power and pain, you can inflict. Thank you for contributing your twisted arrogance to this post. You are an excellent case-in-point for the new social pathology of our times.

        I'm pretty sure he's joking.

Him and his dental tools, 42 years his junior, probably don't even exist.

Times and attitudes change my friend, always have and always will... I'm not saying for the better, but what ya gonna do? Just accept it, like every other shitty thing in life! When you was young your piers would have felt the same about your generation...
