I don't get why people use the words retard or retarded, or complain about mentally challenged people, or say that they're scared of mentally challenged people. That really infuriates me to the point where I just want to kill anyone who uses those terms.....which would be everyone..
Retarded used to be the polite medical word until the thought police decided it was offensive. So did spastic. Even deaf and blind now have pc alternatives. Whatever is acceptable today will no doubt become offensive to some whiny bed wetting loser next.
Just because a person uses the word "retarded" doesn't mean that they hold any animosity towards the mentally disabled. You are more foolish than the people who use the word because you are letting it fill you with hate and negativity.
Do you know how many words like "retard" have become passe to use in just the past decade. So getting your panties in a bunch over one word used out of context seems, well, retarded.
I really don't care how someone means it. The point is they're using a derogatory term whether it's a joke, or to describe something or someone. A great example would be how you used it in your "argument".
It's dissapointing that in the human race we're letting a word this abyssmal, this ignorant and disgusting seep into everyday use.

You are really not very intelligent are you? "Mentally retarded" is a legitement term. It is like saying someone has OCD. If the person has OCD it is a legitimate term. You can not be upset that people use this medical term. If they use it the wrong way yes it might be offensive. Saying a "Homosexual" person is "Homosexual" is correct. If someone has aids the doctor is not rude for saying "I am sorry but you have aids" are you going to sue the doctor for giving a diagnoses? These are real words. You are too ignorant to understand them. Maybe your should learn what they mean before you start getting all offended. Do not blame others since you are too dumb to open a dictionary or text book. to be honest, if you automatically think of the word "retarded" as an insult to actual retarded people, then you really think of them as retarded. and most of them dont have the mental strength to even comprehend what that word means, but if they do they know they are because they original word wasnt meant to offend, it was the actual term, so if anyones offened by the word "retard" dont blame people who say it blame people who starting calling their friends, ect retarded. because some people actually want to use to right term for mentally retarded people and not try to sugar coat it by calling them "special"
The word was used at first as a euphemism when words like "idiot", "moron", and "imbecile" were actual medical terms. People stopped using them to refer to mentally handicapped people because they were "offensive". "Mentally retarded" sounded neutral enough because "retarded" just means "delayed" or "Stopped".

You do not understand what "Mentally retarded" means do you? That is a legitimate phrase. When people use it as a derogatory term it means you are as {stupid as a retard}. So when people act very stupid they say {retard}. You should look up these medical terms. They will help you understand things better in the future.
Some people honestly can not deal with mentally retarded adults/children. I use to have some in my school. They did not know how to socialize so they would go around chasing people. It creeped me out and other people as well. The can also be a hassle since they are sometime prone to tantrums and often have a very low maturity level. So they could be age 16 and its like you are babysitting a 3 year old. so I could see how some might be frustrating.
Another thing are you sure they were actually complaining about retarded people and not just people who act so stupid they were “called retarded”? Did you know the term (Bastard, bitch, and damnation) means something as well? Bastard is an illegitimate child, bitch is a female dog, and damn is short for damnation which means Condemnation to eternal punishment in hell. Why some will say “Damn it all to hell”.
However the word "Fuck" does not seem to really have a meaning. It just sounds very vulgar. It is also refereed to as the "F" word. Though some things just seem vulgar and unnecessary unless you want to sound fowl like "Vagina" is a "Cunt". You could say the correct term but that loses the affect of the insult.

Also, there's a common mistake of retarded and retardant. Like fire retardant that repels things.
To automatically think it's an attack on a mentally handicapped person is a bit immature in my opinion. It's like when people get mad when people say "gay". People aren't doing it to attack that group of people. It's just a word and no one has claim over it.
