Is it normal to hate the so called "black" culture

I'm not being racist towards actual black people but I hate the people who can't seem to talk proper English (eg. Yo, watup homie) , drop out of school, dress in $500 with of name brand clothing and think they are gangsters.

  • What disturbs me is that some people actually think that black people are genetically predisposed to speak this way. This is probably because 99.9% of them on television do. These crude dialects are culture-bound, not race-bound. They emerge out of ghettos inhabited by poor uneducated people who happen to be of the same race because certain races were driven to live together in isolated communities due to oppressive racism throughout much of 19th century America. And yes, it is generally an American phenomenon only; I cannot tell the difference between the speech of most white and black people on British or French television.

Yes dappled I am a native speaker of English but I don't mean the people who have learnt English, I mean the ones who damn well know how to speak it but choose not to. I have noticed many actual black people are great people and are respectful but many white kids embrace this culture and speak like that to be "cool". Btw I am white and am in no way racist

The point I was trying to make (and failing badly) is that many people speak English who are not English as a nationality. Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians, Americans, and South Africans. They all speak it in different ways and use different words or inflections. I actually am English as a nationality and I could be really precious about the "corruption" of the language that supposedly belongs to my people.

I could be, but I'm not. Language is the only true democracy on this planet. It's not majorly enforced in any way. It grows and changes and develops by the will of the people. Do I think it's sometimes stupid? Of course, but people are sometimes stupid.

What's important to remember is that this language you and I are speaking now is organic. It's not immutable. It's not set in stone. Nor is it exactly the language our great-grandparents spoke. Mine thought cool meant "slightly cold". Now it means something else. You use words your forebears wouldn't approve of, so allow others the same freedom you think you deserve every time you open your mouth.

I just wish people of all races would pick a really awesome role model and emulate. Imagine if we all said please, thank you, made polite actions like helping old ladies across the street, held open doors, kept our music at volumes that did not blatantly disturb others, read posted rules and adhered to them, and so on...

However, it isn't "black" culture that is guilty. It's hip hop culture. I like hip hop, always have, but there's a certain "toughness" that all its players have and it is really annoying. Imagine saying hello to all the people you simply give "hard" looks to?

That "culture" is it's own downfall. They praise flash instead of substance. Put down successful, educated black people because they speak so people can understand them, (including employers), dress so they do not look like a clown and do not sit around and blame everyone else for their lack of success.

"Black Culture" in actually is really "Ghetto Culture" spawned by ignorance. Even though the media portrays this culture as such it's helpful to keep in mind that this type of lifestyle is not dependent on racial ethnicity but most likely your neighborhood. Considering what I just said, does southern twang bother you too? How about southern stereotypes you know...the wheat stalk in the mouth and the overalls with mostly no shirt? You should keep in mind that all sorts of people of other racial backgrounds dress and act in the same mannerisms as that "black culture" that you talk about. As a black person seeing all of this I can say it's utterly disappointing to see such poor representation; you shouldn't see that and think black culture. Sadly enough a lot have professed it as such...

    Sorry,

I'm a bit inclear as to which 'black culture' you are refering to? Because Africa is home to innumerable tribes, ethnic and social groups, some representing very large populations consisting of millions of people, others are smaller groups of a few thousand. Some countries have over 20 different ethnic groups, and also are greatly diverse in beliefs and languages.

So exactly whom are you refering to?

I believe there is nothing wrong with black culture, learn to accept things and not be so quick to point out things that are different.

That word was thrown around quite a bit during the slave era in which the slave masters would call their slaves that. The African-Americans soon began to use the term to display sympathy or endearment to one another, they were all in the same situation and it helped to keep them strong. It is very disrespectful to bring up this term as it is basically saying they are inferior to you. If a young black kid went up to you and called you a dirty fucking redneck, would you be upset or smile and disregard it?

        • yeah but back in those days black people needed stregth to keep strong so i could understand why they said it but the blacks today say it for no fucking reason they are no where near as strong as the black people back in the slavery days

and yeah if a black kid came up and called me that i wouldnt be offended but then again i wouldnt be to blame because i havent "nor do other whites" go around calling each other rednecks

but black people go around calling eachother nigger

i dont find it rascist calling blacks today niggers because if they can call each other it then so can i that word isnt offensive to them because they didnt go through the hard times in the past i wouldnt dare call someone in the slave days a nigger thats what i call rascist but if a black guy goes to his friend and says yo nigga look at this fool (saying it to me) then i would gladly call them a nigger

they are putting the black people of the past to shame with their behavior

As someone who is partially African-American, many people say this. Yes, its okay to hate those aspects of "Black" culture, just don't go so far to hate Langston Hughes, Oprah, Tracy Chapman, and Spike Lee. Every tree has some rotten fruit.

I don't like it when people expect me to use slang terms just because I'm black. It's REALLY REALLY ANNOYING THAT IGNORANT TOOLBAGS THINK THAT BLACK PEOPLE REALLY TALK LIKE THAT.

Same with me, but this includes the Mexican "homie" culture here in So-Cal. I don't hate the people, a lot of them can be really cool, but that "homie" and "gangsta" culture really annoys me. Especially since I speak Spanish, I end up raging at the crappy Spanglish the "homies" use.
