Is it normal to hate the harry potter movies?
I absolutely love the Harry Potter book series. I have read through the series literally (no exaggeration) more than 20 times and I've listened to the audio books even more. I am obsessed (I know that's a little weird, but that's not what I am asking)
I despise the Harry Potter movies! They are so inaccurate and wrong, badly acted and generally bad. I usually don't dislike movies this much, as I am a big movie lover.
However, the Harry Potter movies give the series a bad name. People who only watch the movies and say they hate Harry Potter or that it's stupid are being duped by the terrible movies!
Stuff wrong with the movies:
Harry's eye color is blue (a significant change from the books where his green eyes play a huge role), his hair isn't jet black and spiky, and his scar isn't in the center of his forehead. He's too short, his face is too wide and Daniel Radcliffe isn't a good actor.
Hermione is much too pretty. They pretty her up, she's supposed to be average looking with bushy hair and buck teeth (until the 4th book). That's why it's so surprising when she cleans up for the Yule Ball. In the movie there's no change but everyone acts surprised.
Dumbledore wears a weird hat instead of a wizard's hate and ties his beard? Also, he's mean and freaks out all the time. Dumbledore is supposed to be really calm and mild mannered. Also, in the sixth movie his hand is slightly black. In the book, his hand is completely black and burned looking.
Snape is way overacted, and he's supposed to be in his mid thirties, not sixty.
Lupin doesn't have a mustache, Sirius is supposed to be in his mid thirties, too, and be emaciated but formerly handsome.
Voldemort isn't supposed to wear a suit! He despises muggles, why would he wear muggle clothes? Also, he looks too old. Yeah, he's about seventy in the book, but he is so dehumanized that he doesn't really look aged. His skin is also not bluish greenish, it's pale white. He has red eyes, not blue. Even before he was Voldemort, he had dark eyes.
The absolute worst part of the movies, though, is that they dumb it down SO MUCH. And make it all about repetitive wizard fighting and constant action scenes, as if the audience can't sit through a calm moment. The first movie is okay when it comes to sets and props, but in every movie they make the sets more and more ridiculously elaborate and unnecessary. Wands are just wooden rods, they're not carved in weird designs. Even the Goblet of Fire is supposed to be a roughly carved wooden goblet, entirely unremarkable except for the flames coming out of it.
The last fight between Harry and Voldemort is supposed to be just them circling each other in the great hall, while Harry explains everything to Voldemort. Then Voldemort's curse backfires and he falls to the ground with a mundane thump. Do they have to make it ridiculously elaborate to keep the audience's interest?
I get they have to cut out certain parts, too. They're big books. But they cut out important parts and replace them with made up parts that don't add anything to the story.
Am I the only one who feels this passionately about them. I know they're just movies, but for some reason I get irrationally angry about them.
