Is it normal to hate the big bang theory?
I just can't stand the show, and I'll watch practically anything on TV - The annoying as hell characters in particular are the worst part. Hard to believe the show is so popular based on viewing ratings.

It has a very specific sense of humor. Obviously, that's not for you. Find a show that you do like :)
What I can't stand is the fan base.
Random Imbecile - "huur I'm such a nerd cuz I watch big bang theory"
haha... no... you are not a nerd. You are a faggot.
I'm actually marathoning it right now and I think the characters are lovely and hilarious. But that's your opinion and I think a lot of people don't like it.
Give it a chance, it's popular for a reason. I didn't like it when i saw it for the first time, but i gave it a chance and now i love it. BAZINGA!
I liked the first few series but I lost interest when the newer characters were added
I used to really enjoy it, but it seems like the more I watch Big Bang Theory, the more annoying it gets and the more shallow the characters' personalities seem (which doesn't surprise me, since it was made by the same guy who did Two and a Half Men). For example, all Sheldon does is correct people and make continuous references to science and geek pop culture. I once heard someone describe Big Bang Theory as "your dad's idea of what geeks are like". And even though I'm not a geek myself, the stereotypes presented in the show are almost painful to watch, especially since I have witnessed what real geek conversations are like (being a prominent member of an autism forum like I once was, listening to people geek out over stuff is an almost daily occurrence)
It's your average formulated show, nothing new there. Plain simple bullshit.
Anyone can get Big Bang Theory jokes, they aren't complex at all. The show wouldn't be so popular otherwise.
Actually some of their jokes are more sophisticated, which does require more intelligence, it's a show about nerds so that's expected.
Some people just don't get humor.
You just say you hate it without stating why. Which means you have an irrational hatred of the show. So you are irrational. Maybe the show is just too smart for you. After all the ones watching it must be SUPER NERDS!
I love Big Bang Theory. That's like the only modern tv sitcom I actually like. I'm mostly into the classic comedy/sitcoms from the 30s to the early 90s like The Three Stooges, I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, Gilligan's Island, The Munsters, Three's Company, All In The Family, Sanford & Son, The Jeffersons, Who's The Boss, Family Matters... the list goes on and on. Most tv sitcoms these days are not all that funny or well written as shows back in the day. One of my friends told me that I was born in the wrong generation.
I couldn't last through an episode.
This is basically what I understood from the show...
"We're so smart, and nerdy that I feel the need to say something smart and nerdy every second to sound smart and nerdy."
The fact that most of the people on the show have Phd's, masters, etc is nice to know...
The actors are probably wonderful people! They recently did a convention at my school, and I did get to meet some of them... But that show does not cut it for me. Is it because they act too stereotypical? And the characters are repetitive? Mayhaps.
Here's another show that's really witty, and enjoyable to watch! "Community."
Yes, they do nerd out! but in a good way. :) Troy and Abed <3
What you "basically understood'' isn't "basically what happens''. If you don't watch the show, don't make comments on it when you clearly don't know what it's like.
As for Community, it was good for two and a half seasons, then it took a fall from grace in the second half of season 3. I've still been watching it, but season 4 has hardly made me smile, let alone laugh. They've been renewed for a fifth season but I doubt they'll reach six if the standard remains the same.
I have seen a quite amount of the big bang theory though I have never "finished" an episode. I clearly do know what my opinion of BBT. Or would you comment that I basically don't understand that as well?
What I don't understand is why you watch something that doesn't amuse you just for the remote possibility that you might be amused?
*puts on Jeff Winger I'm too cool for you face*
There's three kinds of people in the world, one group watches BBT because they laugh at the nerds, one group watches BBT because they laugh at the jokes because they can relate and one group really doesn't give a shit.
I said yes because it seems that it's normal enough. I like the show, though.
No, I hate this show too. There's nothing really compelling about the characters and I feel sorry for them and guilty even that we're supposed to laugh at them. I'm sure there are many people out there that have autism spectrum disorders like the characters that feel offended.
It also bothers me that the actor who is one of the main characters is flagrantly gay, and basically plays the character to be a gay man, yet it's supposed to be interpreted by the audience as "nerdy" rather than gay.
If you're referring to Sheldon, then the actor who plays him, Jim Parsons, is gay. The character he plays however, isn't. He has a girlfriend, although he has no interest in getting intimate with her.
In other words, you're completely wrong.
I know that he's gay and the character he's playing isn't supposed to be. But I'm saying that any unbiased person watching the show would think that this character is totally gay based on the way that Jim Parsons plays him. My point is that nerdy people don't act like that. Gay people do.
He's playing a straight, nerdy character, he should act like someone who is straight and nerdy, not someone who is gay.
