Is it normal to hate that this site is full of kids?

So, regardless of the warning when you sign up for this site that under 18s are not old enough to be receiving advice from a site like this, its obvious that the site is full of under 18s. At least, i hope thats true, because if its not there is a worryingly large number of adults using terms like BFF and wondering if its normal that the BFF they have had for two weeks doesnt want to be a BFF anymore.
I mean, really... are you serious?? im not referring to any specific post but about 1 in 5 posts contains this ridiculous term and about 1 in 3 posts is about school. so if these people are over 18 i dont know what they're doing hanging out in schools... you dont even need to answer me because i know what im saying is true, it just annoys me. bah!

  • This post really pisses me off. As a teenager this website is extremely helpful because there is nothing to embarrased about as it is anonymous; even if someone does talk in text language they still have a problem that they need help and advice with. You shouldnt just dismiss someone's issues because they are petty, they obvs need some suppor if they came on this site. Sounds to me like you need to grow up and stop being so judgemental.

I'm in my 30's but I really don't mind the kids that need help with legitimate problems. Being a kid is tough and if I can help then I'm more than happy too. I would have adored something like this as a teen.

Between the ages of 12 and 18 is when I most needed a site like this. If a question comes across as being written by someone younger but also appears to be genuine, then I try to give as honest and open an answer as possible.

    • you will have to point out where in my post i accused all teens of using that expression. i didnt.
anyway, the point is, at that age you are surrounded by people willing to give you advice. in fact you are surrounded by people who are obliged to give you advice. teachers, parents, older siblings - its a pretty unwise move to go to a site full of people you dont know and confide in them. in a lot of cases ive seen people just get shot down by posters on here because we are sick of hearing about first loves and stupid crap like that. so they go away with more problems than when they arrived. the warning when you sign in is true. these kids are not mature enough to be seeking advice from a site like this.

Are you saying that I could have gone to my teachers and parents about my darker thoughts? My developing fetishes and masturbatory habits!?
Hell, I'm still trying to decide how to tell my mom I'm not a Christian and won't be "coming back to the Lord" in any way she expects me to.
Just saying...if they come here and find it then they will know. Most adults don't know how to talk about life. It has been passed down like that for a long time.

I'm 20 (today was my birthday (it'll only be my birthday for about 50 more minutes. LOL), and i just graduated high school last June, so i didn't graduate until i was 19, but it wasn't because i failed a grade, my parents held me back in kindergarten (i went to the Children's Center, a school for kids with special needs in North Carolina (W-S Forsyth County, because I was born with CHARGE Syndrome, which is a genetic disorder) an extra year because they didn't think i was physically ready to go to public school yet, so i started 1st grade 1 year later than most people. and most kids that have late birthdays, they turn 18 during their senior year. LOL

  • .. I wouldn't know, I'm 20 years old and I really haven't noticed a lot of that here.

Ok the term BFF is not just a kid term. I'm 21 and use it in posts here. It's just easier and quicker than typing best friend every time. Anyways if you look there is a school section under the topics menu.

Perfectly normal, but just do what I do. When you find a question you don't like, just pretend it isn't there.

  • i agree with this its pathetic

  • i know i can't do anything about it. i was simply having a bit of a rant about a pet peeve of mine. deepthought33, you are right, there is a wealth of good stories relating to the weird world of humans, but none of them are posted by teens.
And no, their parents don't watch what they do on the comp. these kids all have laptops and comps in their bedrooms and stay up til 3am talking about how they fell in love with their BFF and don't know what to do.

I'm torn about how I feel about the younger posters on here. On the one hand, I had many similar questions at that age and went on and on about the same stuff as though it was somehow a new phenomenon within the human race. I see some of the same behavior here...I didn't realize then how annoyed adults must have been with some of my more petty issues.
Sometimes it seems like the questions are asked, the advice is given, but the ones who are seeking the advice aren't actually reading or absorbing said advice because all they really want to do is share their version yet one more time. The level of repeated stories on this site is crazy. With all that said though, there is a wealth of true human behavior shared on this site.

  • Well the way I see it is that they need someone other than people they know to tell them if it's normal and if someone went through something. Yeah some stories are ridiculous but they shouldn't be judged because of their age. ( some of them need serious spelling 101 class though)
