Is it normal to hate small towns

I live in a small town. And I'm not a redneck, so it's like living in hell. The food is lame . The people are lame they just talk trash about each other or about what they killed for dinner.. I grew up in the city. Life was good. Then I met my wife. We moved out of the city and into a small town, So she could be close to family. It was the biggest mistake of my life! It has become a dull existence. Is this normal?

I've found anywhere small tends to have an added layer of bitchiness, when you tend to recognise people and people know each other it gets really gossipy, is that a word?

But i found cities too alienating, despite all the people no one looks at each other or connects, cities feel like busy yet lonley places to me

which will sound hypocritical when i describe why i like living in a medium sized town

In the kind of place i live in now you know your neihbours by name....but...they don't expect conversation from you, just a casual " hey how are you " or " morning "

you get a sense of community, and i like it but it never gets intrusive or gossipy

I lived in Greenville, MS for almost a year, and I nearly killed myself as a result. It really is the Home of the Blues!

I've always lived in a city, but I'll be moving to a small town. Similar situation, my future husband is a small town guy, and it just suits us better for many reasons for me to move than for him to. Longest I've "lived" there was three months, but I can totally see myself living there. I don't go anywhere much when I live in the city, so not having much nightlife is fine by me. We're happy just to go on road trips, see a movie or hang out with friends if we bother to go out. I can see it being a sustainable arrangement.

I do think, however, it is completely normal to be unhappy living somewhere that doesn't suit you. Can you and your wife find a middle ground that suits you both?

You'll like your new small town. Everybody trash talks everybody else. It's just like IIN. If you want to be a pervert, they have that too.

People at different age turn to like different life..Young people ,of course like city life..while old people turn to like small town life..
For me, presently I so so much hate city life, because of so many people, so dirty city corners, so polluted air,and people are all living like a numb, although they think they are fashion people, art people, rich people, powerful people etc..

I would very much have a small town life if I can:(

You need to find the interesting and intelligent people. Small towns usually have them but you have to seek them out. Art or music events are a good place to start.

    I'd agree, personally

I'm a city person, and by "city person" I mean I like a BIG 24/7 high-energy city like London or New York, not a meagre irrelevant 100 000-people backwater "city".

I don't mind total countryside (small villages rather than small towns) since there's outdoors-y stuff to do, but I couldn't live there long-term.

The suburbs (and small towns) are the absolute worst though and I can't stand them. There's still nothing to do, but at the same time it's still so built up that you don't get the nature of the countryside.

Nice! Creepy bugs, a smooth saxophone, and lyrics that apply to everyone. You have such good taste, Rosie.

I was born and grew up around New York City-NJ-PA so I know what's it like to live in a small town since I'm a city person as well but I travel to the City still often :)

Some people are city folks and some are country folks.
I wouldn't give you a nickel for anything in the city.
It's been 3 years since I've been in a city and I have no plans to go any time soon.

It's a preference thing... your completely entitled to your opinion. There's ways to cope with it though. You could do stuff like drag race your Prius, or refine the art of burning your tires and leaving a mark in the shape of a dick. (Did that with a dirt bike in my neighbors yard... same concept.) Or other stuff that's legal as long as neither one of the 2 cops are around. I've heard of cases where the cops were there doing high rpm launches right alongside the custom built tractors with airplane engines. Basically, your not hanging around the right places, so yea, life will be pretty boring. All you gotta do is find stuff to do to pass your time.

I hate small towns. I hate subways. I hate sewers. I hate doctors and lawyers and cops. But mostly lawyers.... when are they going to stop practicing law?
