Is it normal to hate singing in music? to like intrumentals more?

I'd rather just listen to the instrumental most of the time, although there are some exceptions where the singing goes really well with the instrumental, where the lyrics are really good, or where the voice is used as an instrument. Singing seems to be this required thing for a song to be good, almost all popular songs have it, yet I think it ruins many songs. A lot of popular artists don't even seem to make good lyrics, and instead just do the overdone thing of writing about relationships or partying.

So, is it normal to not like singing, but instead prefer no singing?

  • I find instrumentals to be like one giant solo for each person playing

Listen to Ronnie James Dio instead of horrible singers like Bob Dylan or Lou Reed.

Yes, people used to like instrumentals more back in the glorious prog rock days of the 70's, but the insidious rise of disco killed that off for good.

I'm the same. You know that Pie Jesu song or that Amazing Grace? I like hearing it on a big tuba, a slide whistle and a kazoo.
