    I don't hate religion in its entirety. It's just some people take it WAY too far. My mom is Christian and she's the most open-minded person I know. If someone finds comfort in religion and spirituality, and doesn't force it in your face or make you feel inferior as a human being, then what's the harm?

    I HATE IT: when you search something on the internet to do with atheism, death, depression or whatever, and 90% of comments are "Let Jesus into your heart! I did and it made me a new person!"
    Its like f-off, christians hate it when athiests say there it no god, but they find it A-Okay to deep throat everyone with their BS religion.

    You hate them. They hate you. And the hate goes 'round and 'round; the hate that comes from fear eventually turns to anger. You're angry at them because they're angry at you because no one wants to understand the other person.

    And at the end of they day, all of it completely pointless.

    Religion Topics cause too many conflicts

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I, like dappled, am atheist but I respect people who are religious. Religion was created to explain what people can not understand. Look at the Greeks, religion explained a whole bunch of stuff they didn't understand. Sometimes, religion just seems so god damn stupid that I have to say something. My friend who is Muslim can't eat pork, and my Jew friend, well atheist-Jew, could not have eaten pork with milk if be followed his religion. I am an atheist-Christian, the best religion ever. Rules: Don't kill people, don't rob banks, don't be liberal, and make decisions for yourself using your own judgement and what you think is moral; don't let some book do it for you.

    As an atheist, I try to be respectful to people who aren't atheists. But sometimes I find it difficult to be both respectful and honest because one of us believes in a lie (it's either me, or them, and I think it's them).

    But I don't want to steal away someone's faith. This is going to sound strange, but - as an atheist - sometimes you have to be more moral and more caring than people who have the umbrella of religion. I understand your post, but I don't think you're necessarily doing atheists any favours with the way you set about saying things.

    Its sad how many uneducated and ignorant people are in this world now.. I bet most of you voted for obama and listen to lady gaga, your all idots. First thing why would you not want to believe in an afterlife or a creator? Sorry but if anything science proves there is a God; there are too many tangibles that make life possible for there not to be a greater power. Second if there isn't a God then how did you get here? Darwin states that all All species evolve except for humans.. So if we didn't evolve from anything then how did we get here? Everyone is entitled to Their own opinion but one day every knee will bow before the Lord and will have to answer for their actions. All I'm saying is read the bible and look around if you still don't believe then I'll pray for you. Jesus lived, Jesus died for your sins and mine, Jesus rose from the dead and into Heaven. Jesus saves!

      Calling non believers idiots? Really? You sound as bad as Chewy.

      I'd like to know where are these *scientific* facts that you claim proves God exists (and the ones that Chewy claims proves he doesn't exist) because I've honestly never heard of this before and I'm genuinely curious.

    @zack

    Atheism is not a religion. Look it up. Just like my ColourReligion is not a religion.

    There are certain qualities something must possess to be a religion. Neither Atheism, nor ColourReligion possess all those qualities. Hence both are not a religion.

    People can't just go abusing words by ignoring their definition and using them like they see fit. That's the same as people using monkey and ape without knowing the difference.

    And to help clarify. When working with collections a double negative is not the same as the original. That only works with mutual exclusive things. Hence not believing in a diety is not the same as a religion.

    This is the second time I stated that atheism is not a religion. Both people saying the opposite have only stated their opinion without anything supporting their claim. I'm happy to discuss, but will from now on ignore the unsubstantiated claims concerning the atheism!=or==a religion topic. (I know it is easier to yell things and don't think about supporting them with anything factual/logic, but it doesn't work that way. (As much as religion would like it did.))

    @kyanviado

    Atheisme is not an religion. The argument you make is something people say a lot, usual because they don't know the exact definition of religion/atheisme or don't care about being precise and just want to yell things.

    According to the logic in your post: atheisme is a religion because 'they' believe something. Well I believe the colour of my room is green. Or better I believe people probably see colours about the same. Wohw, I just created two new(probably not) religions right there:|

    Atheism is also a religion because you believe that god and jesus does not exist. So if you choose to believe that than feel proud of it but don't march around and put people down because their beliefs are different.

    @jodyjo:

    Yeah surely god created us with an apendix to process grass or randomly explode. (Because we do eat a lot of grass and like to die from internal problems.) It doesn't make sense at all to think we might have evolved from something that actually eated grass, that's just crazy talk.

    Owh, and yeah while the god you are speaking of is defined in a static book, which didn't change in the last centuries science actually continued. The gaps have been getting filled with fosile records. (Something the religion side gladly keeps forgetting.) And guess what the Darwin-idea of evolution has been largely outdated and updated with new theories. (Something that has been widely discussed in science journals.)

    Last but not least, I've been raised with Christanity. I can read Latin and Old Greec(not to forget Dutch, German, French, English and Japanese(less Spanish than I like)), both versions of the bible(Latin&Old Greec) are closer to the original. And yes I've read it. But at the age of six I refuged to keep going to church, because it just didn't make sense. The logic(even internal) errors were just too much. Never understood why other people couldn't see the errors.)

    Last but not least I live in Europe, I listen to Old 60-70 music, Japanese Metal/Pop en [folk] metal. I can't vote for Obama and I don't think I would(two party system is a bit limited imho) for I am a right-winged hippie. I'm all for groovy, peace, [free] love and right-winged politics. (Progressive not conservative right) Now you know, but I don't know why any of that would matter to you.

    Owh, the famous everything works so it must be the work of a higher power argument. That only works for people with limited math and abstraction skills.

    You see: imagine all sorts of realities. Now your statement is: 'there must be a god, because the world works&a working world is a very rare thing'. Now indeed, for all things to work together like they do is very special indeed. So indeed given a unlimited number of universes the chance for life would probably be 0%.(Please remember this can be a value in the 0-1.49999... range, but tbh the value doesn't matter.)

    The problem with your statement is, it can only be given if life exists. (I hope I don't have to explain that 'you' need to exist, or at least sentient life needs to exist before anyone/thing can think/make a statement like that.)

    That changes the statement to: 'if life exists then -> there must be a god, because the world works&a working world is a very rare thing'. But wait a moment, we now do not have a 0%(hypothetical, again value doesn't matter) that the universe works, because we only take in account realities that fit the 'if', so realities with life. Now guess what, all worlds(100%, this time exact value) with life work!

    So what you are saying is: 'there must be a god, because there is only a 100% chance our world would work'.

    Wait:/ 100% That's not unique, that's a certainty! So your statement doesn't make sense at all. And you only needed a functioning brain to see the fault in your logic. Imagine that.

    And that's kind of the problem. When things happen in life or you wonder how stuff works, you can ofcourse just say: 'god made it, don't think', but I prefer actually thinking.

    (Disclaimer: I made some shortcuts, because I didn't want the rant to become too long, feel free to ask for a longer version.)

  • Blackwargreymon

    That's very kind of you to say:D Especially because I'm going a bit in the same direction as you but not agreeing.

    I don't believe chaos, war and corruption exist because of religion. I do believe that those things are just in human nature. And since religion is a human thing it will probably contain those things.

    (Personally I'm a big fan of chaos too, chaos is my life:D)

    People will probably fight eachother and find an excuse they can use. Maybe if we all stopped with the emotions and instincts, there would be less fighting. Or at least nobody would have the morals to care.

  • Blackwargreymon

    Ahw, and I love you:D

    But I don't think banning it would be such a good idea. Even assuming that the world would be better of if they just used a bit of logic is dangerous, because they are probably thinking something along those lines.

    Plus like the quote I heard in Latin class: "Religion is [like] opium for the people". I believe without religion something else would probably fill that void. (Like how bits of pop culture are somewhat replacing the function/control of religion.) Even science in some way or in de hands of some is a religion.

    I think the best solution would be the same thing as is stopping science from being a religion. Make people think for themselves. Make them use logic and make them critical of what they believe and what others tell them. And even then people will like the stories, because it makes life easier to live for them.

    Ahw, don't hate religion. It is just like the stories people tell children to make the world easier to understand/avoid difficult conversations. (Like yeah babies are brought here by storks or yeah Santa brings you presents.)

    A lot of people need such things even when they get older.

    Sure even as a kid you think: wait babies Storks why? Or wait how does Santa work, whole world nah, or wait you tell me there was a boat with all these animals, how did they get there:S How did it fit:S

    All those things just don't add up. But yeah a lot of people need that. And bashing their religion is like going to a kid and telling it Santa doesn't exist. So don't hate, feel sorry for those that need it.

    Think of it like this. With a bit of an higher education(talking about the ones that get perfect scores on their placement tests, while not studying+latin+greec part) you can(not must) assume that you're smarter than 95-98% of the people, judging by that national scoring. (Assuming the bad and the good luck balances itself.) Then imagine the stupid things you once thought or did. Add to that the people with limited control over their instincts/emotions. Now put that in perspective and then it is not more than logical that things like religion are so widespread in our society and among people.
