Is it normal to hate popular songs by most bands?

I always explore the less popular songs by bands especially Rage Against The Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, and Nirvana, but it seems that the unpopular songs by most rock bands are much better usually and it annoys the hell out of me that they get no credit. Also it annoys the hell out of me when people mention the most popular songs by bands when we're talking about music. IIN?

My favourite Nirvana song is not one that anyone else would pick as a favourite. Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam. I do like Nirvana very much and I do like their more popular songs but I like a less popular one as my favourite. Same with The Beatles. It's "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" or "Across The Universe". Same with Bowie where it's "Cygnet Committee" or "Eight Line Poem". Same with Rebecca Black where it's "Thursday". It's Thursday, Thursday. Can't do shit on Thursday. Fucking homework. Fucking Thursday. Genius!

i stopped listening to pop after 2001 or 2002 then i listened to R&B and was forced to listen to Queen, Run DMC, Prince, etc. because of my dad . THEN Gospel. I'm a youtuber & most of the songs that are pop that I hear, I hear a cover 1st. AND the cover is almost always better than the original. I listen to kpop now. They have more genres and they have REAL rnb . The pop music of today it all sounds the same. I do find myself listening to more k indie than anything else . Still listen to Christian though

Same for me. It always seems like the most popular songs seem to have very little lyrical meaning, and do not represent the bands greatest songs. People claim to be Nirvana fans, having only heard Lithium and Smells Like Teen Spirit.

It seems to me like a band will release a radio-friendly song as a single because record companies want them to. They then write a good song and put that as a B-side to the single, so they can still push music that represents them whilst keeping a record company happy.
