Is it normal to hate poetry by modern poets?
Hi! So, for whatever reason, when a person I know, like a friend or mentor, whoever they may be (even if I don't know them, actually) comes up to me and asks me to review a poem by them I just HAAAAATE it. Nowadays people try so hard to be deep that it sounds like a poorly-written suicide note.
I have this one friend who writes amazing poems, and I honestly admire and applaud her for it.
Now I know that, especially in the arts, everyone's tastes are different and nobody has any right to bash another's. but I just feel like in this day and age every poem just...sucks. Now, old century ballads were the shit. But the crap these days? God, and the whole "depressing" theme is SO overdone and shit. Why don't people write more happy poems, or comedies? Why not poems from someone's perspective, like say a child to their mother?
Ad another thing I've noticed met of these poems revolve around self-pity. Why not pity someone else in your poem for once? Jeeeeeeeez.
Anyways yeah. Is it normal to hate (most) modern poems this much? And I don't want to sound like a bitch, but that's how I feel. That's why I never read my friends poems or write my own, lol. I've never been a big poetry fan. I like rhyme poems but eh.
By the way, I absolutely despise haikus. They are disgusting and pieces of shit that shouldn't have been invented. If you want to write something short then just do a couplet for crying out loud, at least those can be used for riddles.
Sorry if I sound rude to anyone lol this has just always bothered me since what, high school, middle school?
Totally normal. | 19 | |
