Is it normal to hate pit toilets?

Whenever I go camping and they only have pit toilets, I always try and put it off as long as possible. I hate the smell and the way you can't even put a seat cover on it because something about the "ventilation system" just sucks it down the deep dark hole. Is it normal to hate pit toilets this much?

    pit toilets are the worst invention of all time... although I think port-o-loo's are much worse because they get filled faster and when the poop overflows its an absolute horrorshow
