Is it normal to hate people who sniff all the time?

I hate people who sniff. It usually happens on the metro; someone sits next to me and sniffs continually.

Why can't they use a tissue? I sometimes offer them a tissue, but they always decline the offer.

Is it just me who finds this irritating?

It is likely a nervous habit. Something about you makes people nervous.

I used to get this when I took the bus. Really irritating. Could be worse, though. I work next to a sniffer and he does it in a really exaggerated way and then eats his phlegm noisily. Worse, he seems to have a cold for four days out of every five. Plus he picks his nose and eats it while you're having a conversation with him. He eats his dandruff too.

    • That's disgusting. Death's too good for him.

At least he doesn't suck his teeth on the days when he hasn't got a cold.

Personally I'd rather listen to someone sniffle than see a lot of people with snot encrusted faces because they were too concerned about offending overly sensitive types like yourself.

Yes, it's irritating as Hell! And if you offer a tissue, they almost always demur. Sometimes they even act offended. I had a roommate who got really indignant when another roommate's dog made sorta-smacking, grooming noises before going to sleep, yet he would spend the entire day sniffing about once every 10 seconds. Once when he scolded the dog, I mentioned this, and things were never the same. Yes, it's rational to be annoyed, but be delicate when bringing it up. Of course you know the miscreant's co-workers hate him/her for this as well, so telling will help him advance in society on some level.

apparently a lot of people are oversensitive to noises like chewing and drinking and sniffling. Get a grip, there are much worse things out there. Like people who laugh like donkeys for example.

It is annoying, yet I'm one of those people, and it's not sniffing, it's sniffling. There's a difference. I sniff my friends then I say they smell like pineapples or bananas or grapes or coconuts and they freak out, asking each other if they smell like the thing I said they smell like. Btw, I almost died laughing in the past hour on this site..

      thanks for clarifying

Me too, I mean hell some of us have allergies OK?! Its not that we love sniffling, all you have to do is listen to it, were the ones who get sore noses and all that fun stuff.
Stop complaining about something, maybe we snifflers find you annoying too.

I do this but dammit I have bad allergies and I'm self conscious about blowing my nose in public bc it's always loud and wet and messy like two pigs on a farm having sex in a mud puddle.

    • Well what a coincidence! My neighbour, in the flat above mine, once had a gf who squealed like a pig; given the right stimulus.
