Is it normal to hate people who like dubstep?

Dubstep has really taken over the musical industry lately, as pretty much all of you will know. But i tend to avoid those people who really like dubstep, and that's all they listen to. as an indie/alternative rock listener, dubstep seems to just have no meaning to me and is, well, shit. i hate it with a burning passion and i want to yell at all the people who like it that they need to listen up to some good old Arcade Fire or Passion Pit, because dubstep won't get you anywhere. and since i can't yell at them, i internally despise them all.

Yeah! Fuck people who don't like what I like!! What this world needs is more hate! Everyone knows that listening to Arcade Fire will take you far in life! That's why everyone that listens to dubstep are fucking homeless failures and people who listen to Arcade Fire and Passion Pit are fucking CEOs and successful as hell, yo!

I think that we should all slap people that we don't agree with! I like your mentality man!

People who are CEO's always get relieved of their position within a 7 year average always! Dubstep is too complicated for some and great for others. Plucking, banging drums and singing are respected forms of musical expression. EDM is CATCHY that's damn right and no one will respect "REAL MUSICIANS" who are always divulged in themselves and their "TALENT" DJ's/Producers don't generally take themselves that seriously and have more fun. Anyone could hold a guitar and strum the same bullshit anyone else has or could if they tried and real wanted to. A common musician or sound-man wont know what a VST Plugin is to save their life. But a computer electronic music producer always ends up editing and filtering a musician's one instrument in final sound-check anyways. The Beatles never knew how to read sheet music and they were graced for their renowned sound. Why cant electronic music just have its glory without being trolled on by ignorant people who think the rest of people don't know. Its because all other music is really fucking shot boring ass remade lame excuses for something fresh and new. Give me a new Rusko or Flux Pavillion song any day of the week.

Most who "hate dubstep" from what I've seen, havn't actually delved into the genre whatsoever, or don't even know what even qualifies as dubstep. Most of the time its both.
People should stop baselessly generalizing an entire genre they know nothing about. Its just stupid.

I still believe that there's good music in every genre. I thought I hated dubstep until I dived headfirst into it. Even now it's far from my favourite sort of music, but I can certainly appreciate and enjoy some of it. I don't blame anyone for not liking it, but there's no harm in trying to listen beyond the mainstream side of it.

I think all (modern) genres have two sides to them: the commercial and the less commercial. Commercial music appeals to the lowest common denominator; it's good for dancing and it's catchy, but it's not musically or lyrically interesting, skillful or unique. It appeals to more people because it doesn't take the investment of time and effort to understand. Less commercial music is technically and musically good, but it isn't popular in the mainstream because it takes energy to understand it. You need to look beyond the radio to find it.

I can definitely agree with it not meaning anything, at least for the most part. There are songs here and there of course, but really it's just good music to dance to. It's fun, it's lively, and it's heavy. I don't like all dubstep, but I like good dubstep, mostly really heavy dirty stuff.

I have a really eclectic taste in music though. Everything from death metal to folk music falls within my realm of interests.

I can see where you come in liking it. but i would rather dance to 'turn me on' or something than dubstep shit it's just.. shit. haha
And that would make sense that you have an eclectic taste, whereas i don't really like anything except for indie/alternative rock and rock and stuff

I'm with you!! I didn't *want* to like dubstep, but it's grown on me. There are definitely some songs/musicians I can't stand, but I love the deep drops and the major industrial sounds (makes me think of Transformers!) -- stuff that makes everyone around me say, "WTF is that noise?" I like Skrillex because he does the most industrial-y stuff -- that I've heard, anyway. I'm no dubstep "expert," I just listen to it on Pandora now and then (when no one else is around!).

As for my eclectic tastes: from Jethro Tull & Zep to Less Than Jake & The Specials to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes & Old Crow Medicine Show to Passion Pit & MGMT to Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Korpiklaani & Ensiferum.(But, I can't STAND country, hip hop or rap.)

So I've admitted it: I like dubstep.

I hated dubstep on principle for the longest because of its innert lack of originality, the effect on the industry, etc. Since then, I'd gotten random songs on my Pandora playlists and some aren't bad songs at all. I listen to some dubstep as a guilty pleasure. <_< But, it's not much of a stretch, considering my all time favorite genres are aggrotech and electro-industrial. I'm one of those who's iPod has everything from Cradle of Filth, to God Module, and Tchaikovsky, to Alice in Chains. I love music. <3

Hating people for liking a music genre I don't like is childish and pointless.

I try to have a cool, accepting persona on the outside. But secretly... on the inside... when ever I hear someone say something along the lines of "Ah Yeah! _____ is awesome! Other music sucks balls! And the people who listen to it suck balls!" I have this screaming, white rage going on inside my head.

Yeah I hate dubstep too but the reason why I hate it's listeners is because they are SO FUCKING ANNOYING I mean can't they just buy some fucking earphones instead of listening to that shit loud on street?

I think I figured out why I hate dubstep, and why I dislike people who like it.
A lot of guys in one of my classes last year listened to dubstep and they were all complete assholes to me, so now every time I think of dubstep or people who listen to it, I think of them.
I actually have a friend who listens to dubstep.

It's stupid to judge some one on their music interests. If they listen to bad music they just have bad taste, do we despise people on things as little as bad taste?

Well you shouldn't hate someone for their music taste.
You should decide if you like someone or not based on their personality. I have friends with all different music tastes and wouldn't change that for the world.
