Is it normal to hate musicals?
I can't stand musicals! I have given them so many chances too and all I can think while I'm watching them is how much better it would be if they weren't singing. Breaking out in song every 2 seconds pisses me off!

I hate musicals too. I just can't take anything seriously or get lost in the film when people burst into a perfectly rehearsed song for no apparent reason.
Part of the appeal for me is that I have no idea why they're singing or dancing. Like West Side Story, it just makes me happy that two gangs would have dance-offs and all that sort of thing.:D
Some musicals are very annoying to me, though, because they seem to depend on the songs and dancing to entertain, and they don't have much else to offer, in my opinion. However, some musicals are more than that, and those are the ones I like. There aren't many, although there are loads I haven't seen.
Anyway, it's normal. Everyone has their preferences. More often than not, I really dislike them. Although, it's so easy for them to be crap.
I personally don't agree with you but I do get where you are coming from. I have seen musicals that I detested because I couldn't connect with the story nor the actors. The singing was shit, the songs were shit and the acting was shit... Add it all together and you get the triforce of shit.
I could be the genre of the music they are singing or maybe, just maybe, you weren't meant to like musicals. In that case, I suggest that you try out plays.
I know exactly where your coming from.......
every time someone starts singing they flick a switch and its like F**** here we go again.....
makes it nearly impossible to get into the movie.
Well, I am going to assume you haven't seen a full opera.
Operas have no dialogues at all, while operettas have a few lines in between songs, and musicals have the most dialogue.
I haven't seen an opera but I have seen an operetta. I briefly learned about them in a class I took.
They just end up being overly-dramatic and cheezy. The only musical I saw and liked was Wicked because it was a little more on the dark-side and more cinematic. You should go see it if you haven't already. OH and Annie. Gotta keep to the classics.
I disagree with you although I do understand what you mean. I like some musicals; 3 out of my top ten favorite movies are musicals: Rocky Horror Picture Show, Repo! The Genetic Opera, and Sweeney Todd. As with regular movies, I tend to only be drawn to the weird and/or dark stuff.
Some musicals are really well done, have you seen "All that Jazz," "Om Shanti Om," "Cabaret," or "Singing in the Rain?"
The only musicals I hate are the one where even normal dialogue is sung like last years "Les Miserables."
Every bollywood movie is a bloody musical they spend all the budget on the songs that they shoot all over the world.
