Weird fact: By examining the genes of plants, animals and fungi, scientists have discovered that plants split off on a separate evolutionary track first, and animals and fungi only diverged long after that. So in genetic terms, we're more closely related to fungi than we are to plants.
I have wondered if this fact ever gives well-informed vegans a headache.
Another fun fact before fungi and bacteria that breaks down dead plant life there were still trees around the world. So when one fell dead it didnt decay... so that lead to massive forest fires because of all that dried wood left to the elements. It's also a good marker in the fossil record, the petrified tree layer.
I used to hate mushrooms but then I just grew to be ambivalent to their exsistance in my food. I dont like mushrooms but I dont care if they are in my food, it's a texture thing.
What I DO hate are water chestnuts those things fucking suck. Yeah they have no taste but they are crunchy that messes up the texture of whatever food I have with them.
