Is it normal to hate living in his shadow

Ever since my older brother became popular in the school we go to i have been stuck living in his shadow. No one sees me as Alex anymore its just "oh whats up Chris' brother" and it drives my crazy. No one even wants to get to know me if they meet him first, they just see me as just his brother. The only way this can be avoided is if i meet someone before him, which is hard for me since i am very shy. Is this normal

I never really had that problem, I was the only girl, I had 3 brothers my oldest was 5 years older than me my next oldest was 4 years and my little brother is 5 years younger than me so none of them were close to me in school. And once we were both out of school me and my middle brother have alot of the same friends and my ex(my brothers best friend) had 2 kids together so I hope I wasnt considered tims little sister haha

My brother is pretty close to the exact opposite of me and everyone expects me to be just like him. Im always maxs brother and i dont really think ill be anything else except to people that know me better. Its perfectly normal, and it gets better in time. Just let people know youre you, not him. His shadow is only so long, you just gotta step out of it.

  • Well you should know your brother well enough to pick out certain actions he would never do that would be considered "cooler".
So something he wont do infront of alot of people.

  • I'm sorry Chris' brother what were you saying?

Yeah it's normal. No one enjoys being second fiddle.

Well... I am a triplet. In high school, there were lots of people who just knew me as "Matthew's brother" or "Molly's brother" and some people just knew me as "One of the triplets". There were times when people would come up to me, not say hi or ask how i am doing, and just say someting like "Hey, do you know where your brother is?". At times it really bothered me because I felt like people were ignoring me and were not respecting me for who I am. But... Well, over time, I got over it. I don't really know how to explain... People are unique, and even though they seem to be much more interested in your brother, they may very well still have interest in you.

It's normal. People did this to me over my sister. When she left the high school I became one in my own. I was no longer "her sister" but I was finally Jil. :)
