Is it normal to hate it when this happens?

I've had this happen to me a few times and it pisses me off.

Whether it's irl or through text and someone (especially a really close friend) asks "how are you" or "what's wrong" and you tell them exactly whats wrong and spill your heart to them and they just reply back with a few words, a face or something not even related (subject change).

is it normal to hate that?

    HA! Gotcha!

Absolutely normal. Here is a tip to you: on the next times just say "I'm alive so it's alright." or "I'm breathing. Is it fine or what?" or maybe "Enough talking on me. Tell me about your childhood."
Well, I'm sure you understood. Just be ironic. Let the serious talks for when you get face to face with your friends.
Seems like in the internet is really hard have a real conversation.

They probably don't expect you to fully elaborate. It is just a formality most of the time.
