Is it normal to hate it when people make simple spelling mistakes?

No, I'm not one of those people who corrects everybody's grammar/spelling but seriously..little mistakes like getting "their" and "they're" mixed up and there are even some people who get "wait" and "weight" mixed up!!! I mean, come on! That's basic knowledge! -_- anybody else have this pet peeve?

Apostrophe Atrocities bother me. "Todays Special: Burger's and Frie's" one menu board read.

For a while, mostly to be a smarta$$, I carried a red dry erase marker in my jacket and used common editing marks to fix errors on dry erase boards in restaurants and businesses.

After being stapled back together in an ER, I corrected a laminated poster in the room. The doctor was a bit miffed until I explained that the poster would have earned a 0% on the editing section of a 7th grade state test.

    He stopped complaining.

Another one is people writing "off" when they mean "of" and vice versa. That one gets my goat. There's a girl on my facebook and she does that almost every time.

I don't usually care as much. Although 80% of the people on this site should retake their English courses.

no i dont care because the english language is one of the most confusing of all the languages. there are so many people who dont speak english as their first language so you have to give them some credit for at least trying. why dont you help them instead of just getting shirty with them. also some people are just too stupid to know how to spell.

I always used to correct people's spelling. I still do, although not quite as much. I actually found a spelling mistake a teacher made once (it was on the board and it was driving me crazy!)

It used to bother me a lot when people misspelled words, or wrote the wrong form of the right word, or added an "E" to the end when there wasn't supposed to be one. But, I understand now that some people do misspell words intentionally, or it might just be a typo (especially on the internet.). And, of course, some people are just bad spellers.

Grammar bothers me more. It's not a spelling mistake...they're homophones; it's typical confusion in the English language...you still get the point at least. With bad grammar, the meaning gets skewed.

spelling errors don't bother me that much, but i hate when people use "no" for "know" and stuff like that. "no" and "know" are two different words with different meanings. and you only have to add 2 extra letters. suck it up.
