Is it normal to hate interrogative greetings?

What's up? How ya doin? How's it goin?

UGH!

I hate talking. I never speak, except when absolutely necessary. I try very hard to ignore everyone where I work, or whenever I am out in public. If eye contact is inevitable, I usually just greet people with a nod of the head or a wave or something, just so I can pass for human. But occasionally, someone will greet me with a question while not even looking at me, which forces me to either say something, or have them think I hate them (which I do). Why can't people just shut up? Nobody cares how I'm doing, and they know I am just going to lie and say "fine", even though I, like everyone else, am miserable all the time. If you are in the habit of doing this, stop. Now.

    What's up?
    The sky.
It sounds to me that you aren't fond of humans.

Seems like your realization of this little fact has got you down lately. We all have this epiphany at some point: it's because you are maturing and seeing the world for what it really is and not just as you believe it should be.

I completely fucking agree!!! If I can get by an entire day with just head nods, I consider that a moral victory.

Well... It's kind of abnormal. I mean, I understand where you're coming from but social interaction is something that should happen... On the other hand, I hate when people say, 'what's up' or.... Some of the things people say that I don't even know how to respond to as a greeting. I prefer just hey, hi or hello.

WHAT?! Really? I ask people questions all the time. I MUST KNOW. I will put the questions to you and YOU must answer. Put on your robes of state, Your Majesty and Splendor. With a furious glance cast down the haughty into the dust stone faced in death.

Next time someone asks you "What's up"?, go into a loooong description of how bad your 'roids have gotten, how you can't figure out which one of your cats is shitting on the floor, how you haven't been able to eat anything with dairy in it because of the vomiting and explosive diarrhea and your washer broke and you don't know how much longer you can keep wearing the same pair of undies.

    That'll teach 'em.

But really, there's no rule that says you have to answer their question, you can respond to a what's up with a plain "hey". Or think up some questions of your own to stick them with.

It's true that some aren't sincere when asking these things of others, but you mustn't let it get you down. Realizing stuff like this has depressed me as well, in the past, but we've all got our good traits...at least I think so. Theres kindness in the world, and empathy and understanding and so forth. Theres also cruelty, of course, which I'm sure you already know about. Anyway...we can't always be happy, obviously, and feel good. If you aren't already, you should learn to become stronger, emotionally and mentally. It can help you get through days.

I agree with the other comments. The how are yous, what's ups, etc., are sometimes just some informal greeting. It's good to not over-think some things.

People are trying to be nice when they do it, because they feel they have to... But I have a hard time lying, so if I'm having a bad day, I usually say so and it weirds people out. So yeah, I hate when people ask me these things, but I do understand they're just trying to be courteous.

I usually give people way too much information. I know they don't really want it but if I feel like shit and you ask me how I am, I'm gonna tell you.

If people don't really expect an answer and you don't give one, can't you just treat it as a hello? I tend to say "How do?" but I really mean a less formal version of hello.
