Is it normal to hate interacting with people

Nearly every pleasant interaction I have is totally fake. I smile and say hello and never mean it. I resent having to make small talk. I think most people are stupid, banal, and trite. I notice that people seldom think or listen. I work tech support and I find myself giving the same instructions three or more times until the person actually hears what I am saying to them. This is not just having a bad day I feel this way EVERYDAY.

how stupid can you be to expect your customers to understand something that you do day in and day out. of course it seems so simple to you, idiot!

Oh my Gosh another person that make realize how wonderful all of humanity is ! Thank you mtnw for enlightening me as to exactly what kind of moron I am ! Perhaps if you used your immense intellectual prowess to READ any of the comments you would have understood that my customers are restaurant managers aka end users and therefore have more experience with the functionality of system than I do as they use it to enter guest checks, count cash drawers etc. But thank you, random internet troll, I bow before an obviously superior being.

Funny thing is that most people feel the same way about you

Actually I don't give them opportunity, I know full well that most people care less about my opinions, my life or what is going on with my family. If someone asks about something specific I'm glad to share but if I get a casual "what's going on" my response is "not much".

I feel the same way. Interacting with people feels like it takes up too much of my time and engergy 95% of the time and when I'm forced to interact with someone it's all fake, on BOTH ends of the conversation. No one ever really thinks about what they say or do most of the time, it's all ritual bull.

  • I feel the same way. Try to look at the good sides of people and identify with them.

I never felt this way until recently, the older I get the less friendly and more of a hermit I feel like!
I hate my job just because I hate dealing with people, even if they are nice and nothing bad happens I would just rather be alone. I even hate shopping sometimes.
    Bleh.

OMG i feel the same except not every interaction is fake for me. If im with close friends I am myself and quite different but if im in 'uncharted territory' i turn into this sociopath filled with smiles and dilated pupils (i've actually tried to dilate my pupils on purpose for this purpose lol)

honestly most people just don't deserve to know the real you, keep that real self for the real people out there.

do you have friends that you have a genuine pleasant convo with, and it actually doesn't have to be a convo with a lot of words mind you.

Humanity is basically evil. Most of us are stupid. I'm stupid. We get angry quick. Who would want to really get to anyone? That's why we have small talk, to pretend we give a damn about humanity as a whole. We don't.

This is entirely normal. Small talk is absolutely a complete fucking waste of time, and most people are completely worthless and have nothing interesting to say. Think how much more work would get done if we didn't have to spend half our work day stroking our coworker's egos and trying to convince them that we actually give a shit about their lives? Most of the interactions that people have with each other are equivalent to mutual masturbation: "I'll say nice things about you and pretend like I care if you say nice things about me and pretend like you care." What a bloody waste of life.

  • I feel like most interactions are pointless unless the purpose of the conversation is to accomplish something or obtain information I need. It may be strictly professional or to help a friend in need. Sometimes we like to interact to laugh and some conversations are actually interesting. Small talk just sucks though.

That is what I should have said "small talk" that is what irks me pointless polite conversation

  • Sometimes I feel like we interact with people just to jnteract with them. Small talk is pointless unless you are learning about something you find interesting.

Do you think you just don't like your job? Everyone gets frustrated at work so I don't blame you for that. When it comes to tech. Shouldn't you be the expert? If the others knew what you were talking about they wouldn't need you. Maybe you should try doing or learning something foreign to you like painting or raquetball or what ever is challenging. Sounds like you are not interacting with others in various environments which might be your problem. I'm sure you could learn something and benefit from interactions with others if you made the effort.

I actually LOVE my job. I work on computers all day and then go home and mess with my computers. And yes you would think that if the customers that we support call for help they would keep their ears open and their mouths closed. But I support a well known chain of family restaurants and the managers have little to no basic computer skills. In most cases they don't know and the rest of the time don't care. I would love to be able to teach out customers more about the system but most of the time the are not interested.
