Is it normal to hate how your personality used to be?

I'm 18 years old and I'm just reflecting on how much I've changed. I didn't have a dad around when I was a kid and it was mostly my mom and sister that influenced me. I look back and remember how feminine I was as a kid and hate that. I'm a lot different now, but is it normal to hate how you were as a kid?

  • I want to punch people in the face that act the way I did when I was younger. I was EXTREMELY insecure and was stuck in a deep trench of self loathing. I wanted to kill myself, live away from society because I was so ugly, get a lot of plastic surgery when I was older, and otherwise hated myself.

I am much better now but detest and regret the person I used to be. My old demons still haunt me but they are under control ya know?

It is perfectly normal I hate my old self for not being who I wanted to be. And even for doing a bunch of things I regret or having the wrong friends. But I changed and try to erase those memories.

I don't like a lot about my past or present - I'm just learning to accept humans aren't the perfect beings. We really are kind of evil.

Of course! We all progress and grow throughout our lives. Who you are in the present will always see flaws in the past but unfortunately we sometimes lose traits that we loved about ourselves too.

It's definately 100% normal to hate the way that you acted when you were a kid, but that doesn't mean you should make a habit of it. Feeling angry or guilty for things that you did or didn't do when you were younger in the long term isn't going to do you any good. Also remember as well that your still only 18 years old a lot of changes are probably still going to happen in your life and to your personality so try not to be too harsh on your younger self.
