Is it normal to hate how universal cuss/swear words have become?

I pretty much never use swear words. I even usually refrain from typing them, so it really urks me when people go around using f*** in every single sentence. is it normal or am I blowing this way out of proportion? Does anybody else feel this way, too? Also, for those of you who do curse, why? I'm generally curious as to why people suddenly curse as often as using the word like or umm in a sentence. When did the change happen?

Yes, I feel the same way. 33

You're blowing this way out of proportion. 29
There is something fundamentally wrong with you if you don't cuss. 14

The fuck is this bullshit... in-fuckin-credible.

I dunno, if I swear it's almost exclusively for humor or humorous hyperbole, but I swear a lot.

They're just words. I personally think its hilarious how freaked out people get over a few words that society has dubbed "wrong". If you break them down, you can link them to other words from other languages where the meanings are similar but its not "swearing" to use those words in other languages.

I think putting the taboo on them is what made people want to do it more. As human beings we like to feel like we're being bad from time to time. Its a psychological thing. So by saying a "curse" word, we're not really hurting anyone but we get the rush of being able to say "shocking" words.

I think when you make it a big deal, and you let yourself become bothered by it, they have a higher resolution with you than they do with other people.

I don't experience this that much. Most people I know and talk to swear as an expression of annoyance or emotion, not just as filler. Perhaps it's the people you hang out with, or the demographic you're surrounded by?

Seriously, they are just a series of letters strung together in a particular order. Don't know who took it upon themselves to make them "wrong".

I am ashamed that I was brought up by a low-life who swore at me constantly and therefore it is deeply imbedded in my vocabulary. Even though I am well educated I can drop the F bomb in the bar when I get excited or feel passionately about something.

I do not swear at home or in front of children and rarely in writing but it is because of my humble upbringing by a mother who was uneducated and uncouth :o(

    Fucking A
Seriously I swear all the time, it's not so bad. There are so many worse things one can do; it's only words not a punch in the face.

I don't understand how people can get offended by this. A cuss word is just that, a word.

  • It's normal. Like nudity and sex, swearing has become more and more accepted in day to day life. I'm not a prude, though. I have no problem with people who swear as long as it's not at me.. haha.

I was raised with parents who swore in conversation (for fun/a joke) and arguments. I swear online for emphasis, but if I ever swore offline, heads would turn and everyone would know I was pissed. Maybe that's the way you'd like it to be with everyone? Swears lose their effectiveness when overused.

swearing is fine if it's done in moderation. on some people it does fit very nicely especially, if it's not just fuck shit fuck shit-kind of swearing.

It's a problem. I am sad that some basic cable channels now go uncensored as early as 9pm. If you don't think it affects us, a group of elementary schoolers was going by my home the other day, heading to a fight based on the convo, but even the non-fight related dialogue consisted mailny of cussing. no exaggeration. When your regular conversation with your friends sounds like an argument, your cussing is out of control.

I don't swear much in real life. Online I will, although I usually don't spell it out (Besides shit, but I spell that with a y sometimes.), when I want to convey strong emotions towards something. Like I say "haha" or ":)" so people know how to perceive what I say.

I see where you're coming from. I barely curse, unless I'm high. When that happens I tend to say fuck a lot for some reason.
