I am studying web design at collage and we get taught by graphic designers who graduated from uni. there all such boring nobs who slate any one for trying something interesting or unique. if it was up to them every site would just be plain grey with no effects and "nothing noticeable." it is like there all in weird cult to ruin the internet.

Maybe you could be different and try to be a creative graphic designer since their blandness bothers you so much. Try to put that anger to use and do something productive with it.
Hey I 'm a designer! We are snobs. We design for the world. They follow our lead. We lead social unrest (per Hitler and Mao). We used to get paid like international accountants and lawyers. I made huge money for decades. But none of this is true anymore to a big degree.
Good thing I do more art gallery photo these days 'cause the pay now sucks. It sucks because of the massive amount of people joining the field every year. When I got of college, there were 7,000 designers in the country. In 2007, I read that there are 70,000 NEW MFAs coming out every year. Do the math — most of them suck. Not just design creativity and typography, but in terms of craftsmanship and production skills. 99% of these billion designers have no reason to be snobs anymore. I still can, however. ;)
I can totally understand the snob part. I'm studying to be a graphic designer and I definitely noticed some of the upperclassmen are very VERY snobby and judgmental. It kind of sucks... However they might have a point (on the simple design part). They have to consider what they're trying to help you design. If you're trying to design a site for a law firm or doctors office, you don't want to put tie dye patterns and bright colors everywhere since you want the people to take the site/business seriously. However, if they want to go for a simple design with greys and such and its for a party shop... that's really lame. Lol
Anyways it is normal to be annoyed by snobs... but there are some nice graphic designers out there so hopefully you get to work with them soon. :]
Same the ones i knew were extremly boring and slow, half the day was wasted by him creating the perfect circle.
I'm a graphic designer, and I hate graphic designers. Feckin' FIJI-water-drinking glasses-wearing Mac-using motherdicks.
Of course, I'm 50% web programmer, 50% graphic designer. So there's that.
