Is it normal to hate grammatical errors?

Is it normal to hate grammatical errors? I do. The spelling of commonly misspelled words does not bug me that much for a lot of people do it without noticing it, such as I. But short cuts like spelling people like ppl and U instead of you, bothers me greatly. I believe that it shows laziness and disrespect for the English languge. So tell me please, is this normal?

Poster, you made a grammatical error when you wrote 'bothers'. It should have been 'bother'.

That is perfectly normal. People who cannot write a full and proper sentence are not going to get very far in life... And that is an awful lot of people. It is indeed very lazy. I am a store manager and I would not give a job to anyone unable to write properly.

Who gives a shit. Personally, I tend to correct grammatical errors my friends make, and I love to proofread lol

I agree with you. It's not normal, but it is annoying. People may not be lazy or stupid from abbreviating words, but it does make them come off that way because it is the common jargon of tweens. I hope that when I'm 25 I have more common sense than to use "nd" to substitude "and" when I'm talking to someone.
Why would you want people to think lowly of your intelligence when you're better than that?

    DIS BUGZ U?!
    AWW WUT? Y?
    LOL lol LOL ... WUD U RATHER I 'LAUGH-OUT-LOUD'? :D
Seriously though, i agree with superva, that is the way language is 'evolving'
It was born as 'text speak' to make it easier and quicker to type text messages with a limited amount of characters.
It has caught on though and is used in everyday life and now i think EVERBODY uses it at some point.
If anything, the people holding onto the old-school English and writing every word exactly as it should be, are now out of fashion.
I work in school's and believe me, it is nigh-on impossible to write thorough English all the time that is grammatically correct.
If i'm writing obs. ('observation's'. See what i did there? ;)
on a child and it needs to be done QUICKLY, then there is no way i can do it whilst keeping up with the natural flow of the situation. My notes have to literally be initial's for almost everything.
I think people who dwell on this; "It's just plain lazy and shows how unintelligent you are" attitude need to wake up and learn that time's are a' changin'...
    Roll with it.
    :)
    "LOL"

I hate it when people do that in e-mails. It just gets on my nerves, ya know?

I only ever abuse grammar very occasionally for humourous effect, but I otherwise always type properly.

I think, you should learn to cope with it, since it is the evolution of the language. Technology has made even the language evolve, what before took 5 or 6 or 7 letters to be spelled now needs 2 o 3. It has nothing to do with ignorance, it has to do with evolution and future.

  • Spelling is a part of grammar. I'm just saying that I said that little errors like that don't bother me. So why are you pointing out something that I said didn't bother me? You know, you have a brain for a reason.

      • Hey, Lockets, I know it's been a while but can I ask you one thing? Why'd you write "Ha ha"? That was your come back? Anyways, I agree with DrianVonCheez, he or she is right. The same things that bother him or her also bother me. Spelling isn't one of my biggest pet peeves but shortening words out of pure laziness really bugs me. Why can't everybody just not abreviate words?

if you really cared about disrespect to the english language you would learn to write properly. to happyb..i know a lot of people who are in upper management at reputable companies(sorry your job at kfc doesn't cut it) who can't write well. i couldn't agree with gowila more.

  • Okay, Lockets, as I previously stated in this passage I specificall said commonly mispelled words do not bother me. Writing bothers instead of bother falls under that catergory for me. So next time you decide to leave a comment, at least read the full passage.

I did read the full passage before I commented! You are wrong to think that writing 'bothers' instead of 'bother' is a spelling mistake. It is a grammatical mistake. The next time that you decide to comment on my correction of your error, please study basic grammar!

And to happyb, if you don't hire people because they can't write properly (if that's even your real job) you would better hope that proper English is directly related to there job, or you are dumber than them.

God what an idiot where do you work? Kfc or something.

I can't write and I own a very successful company. Suck that. I just pay people to write for me. People who pick grammatical errors are dumb and don't have any real or usefull intelligence.

    Grow up.

    • umm, just to sort of prove my point. in that comment, you made no grammatical errors what so ever. you spelled everything right and used capitals when necessary so obviously you CAN write. so next time you try to tell me to "grow up" at least make sure that your actually commenting on something that your against.
