Is it normal to hate fat girls vs. skinny girl argument?

I understand how society is trying to empower bigger/curvier girls and I support that, but I get extremley frustrated when people put down skinny girls and think it's okay.
"bones are for dogs"
"real women have curves"
"guys like girls with meat on their bones"
These quotes are absolutely ridiculous and hurtful. If a girl is thin, that doesn't mean she is any less woman. We should be trying to make girls of ALL sizes feel good, not one is better than the other. I happen to be one of those naturally skinny girls and my self esteem is really suffering because everyone is beginning to think ONLY curvy girls are desired and beautiful. Why should it become socially acceptable to hate on thin girls, but the second someone makes a comment about a thinker girl, they are seen as an asshole?
So my point is..is it normal to start hating the "big girls are beautiful" movement because people take it too far?

The whole argument stems from low self esteem. A lot of curvy girls wish they were skinny and vice versa.

To even debate about this is degrating to women as women should not be judged on simply appearance. I agree that all women of all sizes should be celebrated but continuing to participate in this argument and actually LET IT hurt your self esteem is fueling the whole debate.

Even some of the most powerful women in the world are judged on their appearance which just discounts everything they have done for society. Focusing on this so much is just a waste of time.

I wish there were more people like you.

I'm sick and tired of it. I have anorexia and I'm tired of people telling me that I need to be curvy. That being curvy is sexy and everything else is inferior. This whole campaign promotes more hate as opposed to love for all. I'm not sure if this is still going on, but there used to be a lot of fat women that "hated" thin people. I think Monique did something like that. They've even made it a bad thing to say "fat", even though when a lot of people say "skinny" they mean it with some form of malice.

The whole thing is crazy! Why can't there be love for both sides?

Well the concept of all girls should be equal goes to an extent i don't mind girls with meat on their bones as long as they are hot but an obese girl isn't healthy or attractive to me.

Wow, I never thought of it like that. I agree. It's okay for you to be okay with your appearance (I know I am), but they shouldn't run down others in the process.

Honestly? It doesn't bother me at all.
What DOES bother me is that we are living in a society that puts these pressures on women to have to justify their beauty in such a manner.

I know many heavy set women that are very good looking, physically fit and have wonderful personalities that even men that I know that are considered to be more open minded wouldn't take a second look at because often it is a bit shameful to be seen dating a "fat chick".

It sucks that they resort to insults such as that, but you have to understand that all around us there are subtle hints of society's preferences for thinner women and I am sure that they are a lot less subtle when you're not one of those women.

All girls are beautiful. I don't think people are taking it too far. It used to be about anorexic models and now it's the bigger girls time to shine! But just because you're thin does not make you any less then a curvy girl.

Fat is disgusting unless it's because of genetics or a condition. People who are fat because they are unhealthy due to their behaviors don't deserve to be empowered.

I'm bitter about this whole thing. Fat girls had bullied me all though school for being "too thin". Which I'm not, I have lots of healthy curves. But that didn't stop them from calling me "phone pole" or saying I need to go eat a donut. And I was made fun of because I have B cups, they'd say I was flat chested compared to them. Well guess what, I'm at a health weight, and if they were too, then their breast would go down in size big time. People keep looking out for the over weight girls, forgetting that there are WAY more fat girls then skinny. Hell I felt outnumbered most the time. The more they make it okay and acceptable to be fat, the fatter people are going to get. Just say, they won't have a motivation to stay thin and get thin.

Poor you with your full B cups :P

Try having not even a full A :/

Combine that with being naturally slim and fit without even trying, and you get a lot of hate.

I'm all for fat girls feeling equally empowered if they want to. (I personally value someone that takes care of their body, so there is a fat 'limit' where I stop being physically attracted to them... but that's all personal, I don't shove those preferences in other people's faces)... and I hate it when other people DO!

Don't make me feel guilty for being slim, sheesh. That's so stupid. They have no idea what the downsides to having my body type are, and I can't so much as breathe a word about my weight or body without heavier girls telling me they hate me, be it in a "joking" manner or otherwise.

I get what you mean! Its strange that the media makes everyone looks so slim and in movies and shows has over weight people getting picked on. When reality is (at least here), there are more over weight girls then slim, so they gang up on the ones who of a healthy weight.
Also, just saying, I can't stand it when someone complains to me about their weight when in fact they've just eaten a whole bucket of KFC by themselves...

Hell yeah, all way over 200 at 15 years old. I know now that they were just fat, but when your a young girl you take what your peers say to heart.

It's all about confidence with yourself... I believe media and yes, men! play a huge part on this whole concept of fat vs. skinny. One side men enjoy curvy and the other prefers skinny. ANd for some reason us as females are looking for that acceptance from men, not saying all women are like this but the majority of us our. I myself have battled with skinny vs. fat I've always wanted to be that natural skinny girl but it just isn't in my dna I've recently dropped the weight and I'm at the smallest i've ever been even through i'm smaller i still struggle to see myself as someone smaller. In my opinon, skinny girls won't understand the concept of being called a whale and vice versa fat girl being called a bean pole. Looks need to be thrown out the window all together because we all know 20-30 years from now looks fade!!!!!!!

  • The thing that pisses me off is that mention curvy girl and someone puts up a picture of a fat girl...they are not the same thing, to me curvy is the classic hourglass figure (or something similar to) therefore even skinny/slim girls can be curvy, it's about your bsut and hips not your fat rolls lol

There is an adage The grass is always greener on the other side..if this is true then trying to change things is only speeding up the process to change it to the opposite of what you originally wanted it to be because as long as humans are being human their going to think the grass is greener on the other side and just have to change it thus making any attempt to make things better futile...~Pessimistic

I've heard statements like those, but only on the web. Where I live, I rarely see someone teasing a skinny girl for being skinny, but I ALWAYS see and hear of fat girls being teased. I guess it's different where you live?

Every guy has a physical attraction to a certain body type of girl! It is the thing that makes us look twice and smile, but that only goes so far, it is her personality and interest that keeps us close to her and makes her desirable over time and time again! You certainly have what makes me look twice, but for others it is something else entirely!
What really sparks my interest is you seem to be thinking for yourself, and that makes you a keeper!

It all comes down to people being jealous. I've been put down before it happens. I don't acknowledge any of those people and I won't come down to their level of insulting either.

There was a commercial awhile back (I think it was Dove or an underwear comm.) and they had women of all different sizes on it. Too bad they don't make more like that one.

Just social trends. Fat = unhealthy, too skinny = unhealthy. There is the mid range of women who have a bit of fat and muscle that are "ideal". Ultimately animal instinct drives us to prowl for girls who are youthful and fertile. Wider hips, larger breasts, and are well fed. Why? Because too little fat will not support the mother and child starving them during pregnancy, too much fat causes hormone imbalance which is not safe. Being skinny is not about seeing bone its about eating just the right amount to stay active and healthy. In fact it is a sign of intelligence I can back this up if requested don't feel like typing it on my phone. Older societies thought heavy women were beautiful because it was a sign of wealth. The whole idea is deep inside our genes some people are just sheep and follow the ideas of the heard.
