Is it normal to hate church bell ringing?

I live right next door to the church so I have to listen to the church bells ringing all day long. For some reason the bells ring at 6 o'clock, at 6:40, at 7 o'clock and again at 8 o'clock, all of this in the evening. The bells also ring every 15 minutes to announce the time, they used to do that only during the day but lately they also do it throughout all night. My favourite time of the year is the week before Easter when the bells don't ring. Plus, the priest is a really unpleasant guy too. I don't know what to do anymore.

I agree. Who needs church to announce the time anymore we all have watches, cell phones, clocks or any combination of these things.

that is completely normal to feel annoyed by that. I live 4 blocks away from one and it sounds like it's right infront of me! I gotta give you credit for dealing with that all the time.

  • At least something good is happening, the priest is getting transfered because he supposedly 'doesn't get along with people' anymore. I hope the new one will be a nicer guy.

i live across the street from a church, and i get the luxury of sleeping in late on some mornings. The church bells never fail to ring at 10:00 and at 11:00, AM of course. I know they're only announcing the beginning and ending of mass, but it's very annoying to hear when you get a chance to sleep in. In your case, it seems rather bothersome, try talking to your neighbors and see if it bothers enough people to have something done about it. If it disrupts the lives and sleeping patterns of many people, then the church has a duty to tend to that problem.

Was the church there first? Or, did they build it after you were already living there?

If the answer is, the church was there first, lesson learned, dumbass.

You have my complete sympathy, I also live near church bells. The people who like bells always say the same thing "If you don't like bells don't live there" That sort of reasoning drives me nuts. You may as well say if you don't like being mugged live in a nicer neighborhood. We can't all choose where we live but we do all have the right to a peaceful life.

I used to hate church bells ringing, if we were on a walk Id stick my fingers in my ears. It doesn't bother me so much now...when I was little I was oversensitive to noise, sirens even music in the stores. I drove my mom nuts lol.

yeah i understand because when i lived with my parents, they had a grandfather clock and that used to chime every 15 minutes but over time, i got used to it. so now i am a very heavy sleeper and i cant even hear the sound of sirens going outside my bedroom window!
maybe you should move? i doubt they will stop it because one person makes a complaint.
