They put them in a cage so they do not lose the bird. Also why they clip the wings.

    yeah, it's normal.

I absolutely hate birds in cages. When I was 12, my mom got one of those. So loud and annoying. It never stopped.

One day I just opened the cage, grabbed a plastic bag and smothered it.

I buried it in the back yard and told my mom it ran away because It hated being locked up and she was a horible woman.

I know!!! In my opinion if your goin to have a dog or bird amd keep it chained up or in a cage 24/7 then dont have it. People alsp want a parrot so they clip its wings so it cant fly away from them. Cruelest thing ever!!!

Years ago I had a budgie. I called him Thor. When I was home I would leave the cage door open. He would fly to his hearts content. Fly to my shoulder and give me kisses. Go to the window and chatter with the sparrows. I had a bird feeder next to the window. I still miss him. He appeared to be happy.

It's the same as polar bears in zoos.

Very sad indeed. But I wonder if some of the bird varieties that are kept are unable to live in the wild any longer as happens with domesticated animals?

    • I agree but I think I'd rather them drop dead from the sky than sit in a cage all day.

Weird, I just watched "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill." Beautiful documentary if you like birds. I love birds. It makes me sad to see them in cages, it makes them annoying too.

Most caged birds were hatched in cages, it's there home. They know no other life and sing! I'm enjoying the company of my budgy "pepper", right now.

  • What about chickens?
Unless they are free-range (let outside) or free-run (indoors, but not in cages), they are forced to live in tiny, tiny cages for us to enjoy eating their eggs and flesh. Everyone always seems to forget the chickens.

  • My grandparents have a budgie and he#s in a cage. But here's something to rock your world, they let him out the cage and what does he do?

    He flies!

It's only cruel if they NEVER are allowed to fly otherwise the bird is fine and dandy.

My grandma had a budgie too and I got into huge trouble because I taught him to swear. His favourite thing to say was "Arse-biscuits!" and he always said it when someone had just made a statement, like he was calling them a liar. I know it's wrong, but it still cracks me up. :)

      • LOL! XD I love it when birds say rude things, it's cute but funny at the same time. :)

On that note, my grans budgie did call her a silly sod once even though she insisted he didn't say it.
