Is it normal to hate being told what to do?

I can't stand being told what to do. To me it's always been a rule of thumb to never ask someone to do something for you if you could easily do it yourself. I remember in school I'd often end up disobeying the leader in group activities because they'd ask everyone else to do something and then not assign their self a task. Sometimes people ask little favors of me, like putting something somewhere or getting them something, and I always say no if they could do it just as easily. They get pretty offended sometimes. Now, if a person actually requires my help, then I can do that. Or if I happen to be in the kitchen already and someone asks for something small, then that's not a big deal either. So, am I normal, or am I kind of a jerk?

It's normal and I feel the same way. Your not being a jerk you just don't want others thinking they can walk all over you. You should look into a management program of some sort.

It means you are assertive. I let people walk over me like a doormat. But if someone is sitting down and they ask you to get them a spoon and you are right there and you refuse then you are pretty much an asshole

same here. I hate it when someone asks me to fix the couch when they're already in the living room, or when someone tells me "Hey, go wash your dish." when we CLEARLY have a dishwasher , RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR FACE, but we can't use it because someone's to lazy to go buy the stuff that we need to use it.

  • I'm the same. Even if it's something beneficial I still don't like it.

Your like me. I'm leader and that's that, I give people orders, I'm the alpha, and they listen, but if they need something, if they prove their loyalty then I shall go to the other side of the universe for them, so its a two way thing.

It's normal to me. That's how I always was, except I do small things because I have an obnoxiously tender side that can't refuse. But it's only if I'm asked. When told, I get mad and won't do it. My mom knows that by heart now.

nah, its good. u shudent let people take advantage of you, like my lazy freind asking me to put his rubish in the bin, when he could just as easily do it himself, the bigoted, bar stuard.

  • I hate being told what to do. I have an authority problem.

That sounds kinda jerkish. I can understand when your "told" what to do when you really don't want to but for little things it's kind of rude.
