Is it normal to hallucinate before falling asleep?

Is it normal that I very often hear, see or feel things that aren't there as I fall asleep? For example: sometimes I hear people talking, feel my bed moving around, feel as if im falling, see or feel someone or something in my room, hear a broom brushing the floor... I know most people will experience this at least once in their live but its really starting to creep me out because its happening more and more. I was just wondering if anyone knows what im talking about and if its normal that it happens so much.

Absolutely, I too have the same things going on before I actually fall asleep. From I personally think it's like one of the above posters said, that in between stage, right before you go into r.e.m. After dealing with it for so long, you can almost start to enjoy it I think, for when I start that phase, I'm in a state of full concentration about things that happened earlier, general thoughts, etc. Here, try this: when it starts, try thinking of a situation you had earlier in the day that you'd like to retry, and most likely you can tune those hallucinations in with your thoughts and almost play out the scenario as you think about it. Might ease you a bit before you fall asleep too.

I hear all sorts of things before I fall asleep. Sometimes it's birds chirping or people talking. The talking is distinctly different from voices of real people. I too intentionally go to this state and ask lots of questions.

This has happened a lot to me recently! I recently started concentrating on trying to 'feel' myself drift off to sleep and during the time between awake and asleep, I experience all those things you describe. I think it's just our mind working in that in-between stage. Don't be freaked out. It feels like a dream beginning but you are still a bit awake. I find it really interesting and actively try to go into this state.
    I'm sure it's normal.
