Is it normal to go without gas service because of a requested deposit?

When I moved in, I went ahead to try to get gas service started and they wanted me to pay a security deposit. I was like FUCK THAT, you greedy bastards!! I'm not paying them a fucking deposit!! They can suck it!! It's been almost 3 years and I'm still holding out. That's 3 years worth of gas payments that these fools missed out on because they wanted to be greedy pricks. All they succeeded in doing was getting more money for the electric company because any gas appliances I had I don't use and I use electric ones instead.

I'm going to call them on Monday and remind them of their foolhardy move. They'll probably act like they don't care but eventually it'll sink in. Actually I should write them a letter instead of calling, yes, that would be more effective, then I can outline the $ figures clearly and I'd hope it would get circulated around the company. They'd probably just hang up on me if I called.

IIN?

Security deposit gets returned to you so what you've denied them is the interest they could have earned on it. In the low interest rate environment of the past three years that probably comes to $7.50 for a $250 deposit. Way to go, Che...

    • They lost 3 years worth of gas sales, dummy. I had a gas furnace and gas oven which I would've been using this whole time. They essentially lost a customer because the previous owners used their services and once I got here they don't get revenue from this home anymore since they wanted to be pricks.

Look, I know a security deposit gets returned but I didn't have $300 at that very moment to give them and they flat out refused to work with me at all, thinking I'd be so desperate for gas that I'd find the money somewhere and pay them. Their attitude sucked and I'm not giving those fuckers a dime. Luckily it was summer time and I was able to get different heating before winter came. I already had an extra stove, I just had to do the wiring for it. Their little plan blew up in their face.
