But, for what? Don't you trust your partner?

I think it's unnecessary if you two trust each other.

I let my ex go through my things, but she had my permission. The "permission" part was key. For her part, she didn't want me even holding her phone, so I never did. She even took it with her to the bathroom. It was never out of her sight.

It seems weird now that she'd ask to look through my texts when I had nothing to hide, and she probably did have something to hide.

that's why she's your ex lol. apperantly she had something to hide. A note to all: Always respect your partner's decision but question it. IF you have no valid answer or don't believe it, dig deeper.

Yes. If you're in a relationship with someone they should have nothing to hide. I let my girlfriend go trough my stuff all the time as long as she doesn't break it lol. But in the end if your partner's butthurt and wants privacy or whatever, he/she might not let you do it, and just respect that decision. But if you feel like you're not being told the truth about something, maybe cheated? do it regardless. It's your right to know.
