Is it normal to go over things again and again in my head?

I feel like I often think about things repeatedly in my head. For example, today I was buying some things for some pet mice. I had a list of things to buy (with prices) but the shop I wanted to go to was closed. Going to a different one was ok but since the prices were different, I found myself adding up the new prices again and again. I did this about 10 times in my head and wrote it down twice. Is this normal? I've been told I could have mild OCD but do you think this is worth going to a doctor for? It wasn't so much stressful to me as it was distracting - I couldn't think about anything else while I was doing this.

  • I think everyone does this to a certain degree. I do this sometimes if things don't go according to a plan I made in my head beforehand. It does not mean that i need to see a doctor about it every time I get a tiny bit anxious. Sometimes this kind of anxiety is healthy because it helps you not make mistakes in new possibly hazardous environments and situations. The only time I think you should seek professional help is when your anxiety and obsessions cause you to deteriorate physically and you cease to function "normally."

OCD is compulsion based on fear(s) AKA dirt, germs,is the stove on?
Then you develop patterns that you HAVE to complete AKA To lock the door , I have to turn it once to the right, stop, then left and right really fast, then tap the key, then.....

Were you adding up the prices because you only had so much money and wanted to make sure you had enough? cuz then, its normal and I do it too.

When i re-read it, it just sounds like you're a "planner"

I understand what you mean and yea I am definitely a planner but OCD isn't just about fear of germs, stove etc. It can also be ruminating about things that are obvious or shouldn't be so complicated or over thinking things. I'm not OCD like people talk about on tv but thats just one type.

I don't think you need to see a doctor.

If you have a need to put a label on the specific way you think, it could be mild OCD.
The important question is, do you think it's becoming a problem in your everyday life? Do you think it's a problem that is worth solving with medicine... medicine that could possibly have harmful side-effects?
Only you can answer that question, my friend.

I love mice and rats, they make great pets! Rats are particularly awesome as pets.

Nope. I rescued an injured bird last year and I only had to tell my cat not to mess with him once! Unfortunately I don't have any rodents right now. I would love to get a dog or another Siamese!

Speaking of people who eat dog and cat meat in their native lands, there's this aweful woman named Gloria Eun Hye Lee in the news here in Las Vegas. She was the owner of a pet store in town and set her store on fire for insurance money with 27 puppies inside! Thank God she forgot about the sprinklers in the store and the fire fighters arrived in time to save the puppies. Since she posted bail she's been on house arrest and authorities have confiscated her passport.

The fire still managed to cause $100,000 worth of damages to the property. Again I say THANK GOD THE PUPPIES WERE SAVED!!!

        • She's horrible! D:
Although, I doubt she understands how Westerners make the distinction between the way we treat animals that are raised for human consumption (which is appalling) and the value of life we put on animals that are deemed "pets".

I wonder if someone will set her house on fire while she's trapped inside on house arrest.

I dunno. I wouldn't be surprised if someone gives her a beat down if she does actually go to prison.

She really should get down on her knees and thank God that the puppies were saved!
