Is it normal to go numb when you orgasm?

When I have orgasms my body goes completely numb like someone game me really strong painkillers. This has been the case since my first orgasm. Every nerve ending in my body seems to stop working until after the fact because I don't feel anything until it starts running down my legs. I understand that everyone is different but I don't know if losing all feeling when you climax is normal.
