Is it normal to go from hysterical laughing to hysterical crying?

I had been having a difficult time recently. A lot has happened in the last few months and today I had learned my financial aid wasn't complete like I thought it was. So after all that had happened that day I was swimming with my boyfriend and he had done or said something that made me laugh. Suddenly I was laughing for two minutes, then five, then ten and the thing he said or did wasn't even funny anymore. I was thinking this was because of my ADHD as this has happened before when I was in middle school. He was holding me and petting my head trying to calm me down when I went from my uncontrollable laughing to hysterical crying. My laughter sounds the same as when I'm crying so it took him a minute to realize and when he did he made another joke and I started laughing again. Then crying then laughing and this went on like that for almost twenty minutes.

I don't know the psychological or physiological link, but it seems to me that uncontrollable laughing and hysterical crying are similar in that they're both an unrestrained release of emotion.

If you've been struggling to keep the lid on fears and concerns, I can see how laughing might shatter that control.

Manic depression. Take a break from whatever stressing you out.
