Is it normal to go for a career for happiness over money?

I am in college right now. In fact, I just started. I've been looking and thinking about life and it's complications. Yes, we are in a recession. Yes, good jobs are hard to come by without a degree. Etc. I just feel like people stress themselves out way too much. Sure, life can be stressful at times, but you can still make it easier and happier for yourself.

I believe in going for a career that you have a passion for, that you love and will enjoy and not going for the money. Yes, I will need money to survive. I am going in a career in music. Sure, starting off it may not pay off like many other fancy jobs, but I love it and enjoy it. As long as I make enough to survive off of, which I will, I should be fine. I am content with the simplest of homes, even the lower class ones. I am content with anything that I have. I wouldn't mind many things. Is it normal to go for a career for the happiness I will get out of it over the money? I know it'll be hard work, but I'll enjoy it at the same time.

Definitely go for what you are passionate about. Everything takes a lot of work to keep up with, but if you're passionate, it'll be a lot easier. Yeah, I play guitar.. I like to sing. Yes.. I suck at both.. I know I do, it's discouraging and it tears my heart when I see that almost everyone is better than me, but that's not going to stop me from playing and keep going for it.

To be able to do something you love, make a living at it, and be content with what you have...awesome.

I think that as long as it gets you by, its fine. I'm the same way. I keep hearing that the job prospects for my major aren't that great and the pay isn't as great either but I'm sticking with it because I like it. As long as it will pay for my basic needs like food, clothes and a place to live, I don't see the problem. I don't need luxury or expensive things if my basic needs are covered.

A wise old man told me that love is i ALWAYS more important than money in order to have happiness.. Its true! never marry for money! And yes, for a career money can be tempting but its overrated. materialism sucks

Go for what you like! You can be very unhappy with a well paid job and you can be very happy with an underpaid job if you like what you do. If you go for music then please do NOT do R&B or rap because I hate those a lot!

I don't know if it's normal but I'd rather happiness over money any day! I'm a nurse and my pay is crap and I know that I could make more money in another field of work but I love what I do and I make enough to survive off and give my kids what they need and want. I wouldn't be happy doing something i didn't love or feel passionate about just because i could earn more money! Good luck with your music career!

well practice makes perfect. a couple of friends of mine had their own band when they were in school and it took them a few years but their first official performance is this weekend which i am really looking forward to. they are a heavy metal band.
when i was in school though i wanted to be a singer and i was told that i was pretty good but my parents never let me do any auditions, they said i was too young so i just forgot all about it.
no matter who you are or what you do, there is always going to be someone better and worse than you so dont let that discourage you.
maybe take some professional lessons and go from there. but i wish you all the best! :)
