Is it normal to go against like father/like son

I was born in the late 70s in the U.S. at the time 90%+ of all males were circumcised at birth (or soon after). My wife and I did not have our boys circumcised.

Question of is it normal - to go against "like father/like son" today.

Actually circumcision became widespread in the US largely because of an attempt to stop childhood masturbation. The medical reasons, many of which are bogus, and none of which are usually necessary, came later.

But yes, it's totally normal. It was this way for me and my dad. Don't worry, the kids will be fine. They'll appreciate it later, although they probably won't thank you directly ;).

Are you referring to the 1860's and 1870's ? I grew up in the 1960's and 1970's and everyone I knew had indoor plumbing and took baths every night .

Circumcision in the past was most common because of disease.
Basically the foreskin can be a great natural incubator for germs.

These days boys/men wash regularly (ie not once a week like in the 60's 70's)
Boys learn to slowly pull back their foreskin (actually parents of very young boys who are not circumcised do need to inform them to do this - bathtime in soapy oily water is good - oh and it will take quite a few goes as it slowly breaks away over time, minor pain can be expected)

So it is not needed anymore. Except maybe for looks.
Also note the foreskin can be used in masturbation as a more exhilarating experience.

Hmm, you probably didn't want to hear all that technical stuff hey? Oh well, had to be mentioned.
At least I didn't mention that it can be a tad annoying in sex when a dry foreskin is suddenly forced back and forth! Oh right.

Of course. Despite what a lot of people say, I think circumcision is pretty pointless. If not having a foreskin was really an advantage, humans would have evolved not to have them :P
