I cannot find a place to live that takes dogs besides houses in high crime neighborhoods that are in disrepair, dirty or on busy streets. I have to give up my dog. Is this normal?

It's a crappy position to be in, but you have to do what you have to do. Maybe you could rehome your dog with someone you know well so you can still see him/her?
I would rather live in a shithole than give up my dog. They're like family members to me.
Landlords don't want to have to spend thousands replacing carpet and other damages caused by damn dogs! Additionally, dogs are a major cause of problems in rental housing because neighbors complain about barking dogs, fleas and dog shit all over the parking lots, etc. Dog owners need to realize that other people don't want to live around, see or hear their filthy fleabags or step into the piles of shit they leave behind.
If you give up that dog, i will shoot you if you get near my house. Dogs are more important than people.

I'm sorry ): But yes, it is much better to give your dog to a friend, relative or even a no-kill shelter if you just can't handle him or can't find a safe environment for you and your pooch to live. Dogs are incredible friends, but having a nice place and having your dog being with someone else is fine. It's always better to give your dog away to someone capable then keeping him when you don't have the space or can't handle it.

You need to keep the dog. It's not fair to re-home animals just ecause you can't keep them where you want to relocate. You may have to settle for a less than ideal place.
There is no apartments which take them? I also know a few hotels which allow pets. That is awful to hear. Its always sad having to get rid of an animal.
Bribe the new landlords with a Happy Meal. It comes with a toy which is sure to please.

If not wanting fucking dogs in the house makes me a sociopath, then most people in the world are sociopaths because most of the world does NOT allow dogs in the fucking house! Go back and read the original question! The person asking it cannot find decent housing that will allow dogs. Are all those landlords/landladies sociopaths, or do they just want to keep their property clean and quiet for other residents and avoid spending thousands to repair the damages done by dogs?
A junkie lying in the street may be "life" to YOU and other losers like you, but it isn't "life" to those of us who actually have a LIFE!
