Is it normal to give a turnip for a birthday present?

Its my girlfriends birthday next week, I am seriously thinking about buying a medium sized turnip, spray painting it gold, and then nestling it in a gift box on a bed of nice paper, i think this will be a stunning and unusual gift, if my name was damian green or tracy emin, it would also be a gift of substantial value, showing that i am indeed a generous boyfriend.

    C'mon man. Who the fuck wants a spray painted vegetable? I don't mean to be a dick, and you may be into abstract art and it's the thought that counts and all that shit, but it's a god damn soon to rot spray painted vegetable! Christ, you might as well get her a can of tomato soup with a toupee glued on top. Wait....is this even real?

    you do realize that spray paint won't stop it from rotting away right?

    eventually she'll have a rotted vegetable with gold paint flaking off of it.
