If that guy doesn't even give you a hint that he likes you more than a friend, and is so protective and kind to you, that means that he's honest, i doubt that he would lie to your face about something horrible.

Just stay friends and see how it goes, how he reacts, how he treats you, if he's not advancing way too much all too quickly enough to indicate that all he wants is 1 sweet night and moved on to another target the next day - then eventually it will lead to you both realizing that you truly do love each other and one of you is gonna have to admit to one another.

It's normal, but please try to consider his feelings, maybe he's in love with you. Just ask him if he is without trying to sound too narcissistic, and try to limit physical contact with him. Especially long hugs! :P

my best friend is a guy, are friend ship started out with him having a crush on me but i didn't feel the same whay, after a few months he got over it. so we ended up becoming friends, we hang out all the time, go to parties together and help each other out with finding partners an give each other advice. it's kinda funny because some times he treats me like a guy (plaing COD, watching footbal and drinking beers ) and some times i treat him like a girl ( shopping together and giving him style advice) and we are like brothers.
guy friends are so much better and more loyal, you're lucky,
( word of advice if he does end up getting interested in you, never incorage it)

If YOU can't handle a platonic relationship, he will not be able to either. Be smart about it, and if you become too close, there's only you to blame for him asking you out. Though, it is very possible that HE could be to blame, as they are -supposed- to be the purveyor of any relationship. The best advice I can give you, talk to him about it, and put yourself in the friend zone. Cheers.
