Is it normal to get so much peel in your mashed taters?

I went to Applebee's today and I had a side of mashed potatoes and there was so much potato peel in there. It was about 50% peel, and it was VERY, very large pieces too! I was appalled. Potatoes are one of the CHEAPEST vegetables ever, do they really need to use 50% peel filler? Shit...

Is this normal?

The peel has lots of nutrition and isn't exactly "filler". And at least you know they are using real potatoes.

    • This was excessive. The pieces were so large they were inedible. I like when there's some peel but this was way too much. It was quite clearly done to stretch the potatoes as far as possible.

Just one more reason to hate Applebee's I guess.

When my mom makes homemade mashed potatoes, I don't want to eat them unless it has peels in it. it's sooo good!
she puts ranch in it and it is sooooooo good!

There's fibre in the peel but the peel is also toxic. I think it contains Selenium. I strongly advise against sending it back to kitchen. Just try to remove as much of the peel as you can with fork and after you are done eating, make a complaint to the manager.

Aw, I love peel! It's the best part of any potato dish. In mash though? :O I've never seen that before, but I can't imagine myself disliking it. It doesn't sound normal based on my experience :P
