Is it normal to get scared aboit toilets and mirrors during the night?

Since i was a child i have always been scared o the toilet at night. Im now 21 but still get the same thing. Im not literally scared of the toilet itself.... When i was a child at night me and my mate would watch horror films well her older sister would stick us infront of them we was only 6 when we watched nightmare on elm street for the first time. Im okay going to the toilet its when i flush the chain i donno when i was a child i thought this moment would be the one where if a monster would get me. So i would run i still do it. Every time i go to the toilet at night, if my family are downstairs as soon as i flush the chain i bolt downstairs. Its gotten to the stage that i panic if i dont get down thestairs before the toilet has finished flushing. also a recent fear is of the mirror also at night i have watched films also horrors like the candy man, the unborn and mirrors of course. And during the night i have to turn my bedroom mirror around so its facing the wall because im worried that i will see some freakish thing looking back at me.... I know it wont happen but i still get this fear, i have no other fears except these is this normal??????? Sorry about the long explination

I'm kinda the same. Like sometimes I have to stand with my back up against the wall if its a really loud flush lol
and mirrors are way scary also ha especially at night or like if there's a dark room with a mirror...hell naw I'm not going in there by myself. I blame the whole Bloody Mary thing. To me you are normal. Or maybe we're just too paranoid :)

It's learned behaviour. U remember going to loo at night and associating that fear, it's normal in that way but a pain for you! You have to un learn that behaviour, and that thought pattern

  • So, I'm terrified of toilets at night time. Only night time, and only when they're being flushed. I often sleep in my living room, but the nearest bathroom is in the master. I'll do my stuff, and I will look at myself in the mirror for a good ten, twenty minuets before I'll flush the god forsaken thing. And when I do flush it, I will sprint, and haul ass, to the nearest person, and then I'll be paranoid about it. I have a fear that someone is in my home, and if I flush it, they will hear me. Ridiculous, I agree. But, it's not easy to deal with. I only signed up for this website strictly because I was googling the subject and ran across this. I wouldn't normally sign up for websites like such. But I just wanted to say, it may not be normal, but you sure as hell aren't alone.

I can't look at sinks, bathtubs/showers, or toilets at night. I keep imagining blood will come oozing out.

I voted "Not normal" simply because it, well, ISN'T normal to be afraid of the toilet at any time of day. It is, however, understandable *why* you're afraid of it; it's an irrational fear, but it comes from specific experiences and you're aware of it.

It's just something you'll either have to deal with or move past.

Definitely understand. I'm not scared of the toilet but when I go to the bathroom I always have to pull back the shower curtain to make sure there's nothing waiting behind it. Or when I'm in the shower I have to constantly check to make sure nothing's in the bathroom with me.

When I wash my face I am scared to close my eyes because I don't want to open them back up and see somebody standing behind me in the mirror.

When it's dark I hate open doors because I'm afraid I'm going to see something standing there in the crack staring at me.

I also hate windows at nighttime. For some reason I always have this vivid image where if I look at the window I will see Reagan from the Exorcist with her face pressed against the glass!

I don't think it's something we should be scared of but clearly a lot of people are, myself included. I have always been scared of toilet flushes at night. Everytime I flush it at night I HAVE to run, I don't even think about it, I just do it. Which is probably seen as weird to my housemates, and I can only imagine is creepy for them, hearing running around late at night... The mirrors, i can't imagine people not finding them creepy though. Why does the room of hygiene have to be so creepy!!
