Is it normal to get obsessed with sick friend?

My best friend is only 16. He discovered a month ago that he is suffering from lymphoblastic leukemia. He is having a very hard time dealing with the sickness and the chemotherapy. He hardly cannot go to school. And he lives around 50 kilometres away from me. I visit him every weekend. But I think about him all the time, at school, football practice, at home, at night I cannot sleep normally. I am so afraid that he will die. I feel like I am getting paranoid. I am always obsessing about him and nobody can say a wrong word about him, I get furious uncontrollable. I do not know what to do any more. I am just so afraid to lose him.

First off, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. And yes, it's totally normal for you to feel that way - you really truly care about him. Good luck, and please take care. He is lucky to have a friend like you!

of course he's always on your mind. you can't do anything to help him except be a friend. one of my dearest long time friend died last summer. it was a long time coming, as she had a terminal illness, no cure, yet it took a full 6 years for her to die. i thought about her constantly.

you are a good friend. lots of kids usually run away from situations like these. keep doing what you are doing.

I'm sorry to hear it. If I were in your shoes, I would probably be the same way. I wouldn't know how to deal with it. Is there another friend you can talk to about all this?
