Is it normal to get fired after returning to work from taking fmla?

I had cancer and took eight weeks of FMLA (federal medical leave act) to have surgery. Upon my return I felt absolutely harassed by the employer. I knew they were digging to find a reason to terminate me. I made sure not to do anything wrong. Wednesday I had to leave work due to an emergency complication from surgery. At the end of the day Friday, I was called in and fired for something I didn't know was wrong and that other employees were doing/do also. Is this normal?

    If they fire you after taking medical leave and have no other write ups about you being a poor employee or doing the same wrong thing multiple times, then you easily have a discrimination lawsuit on your hands. If you're in a union you could probably even get your job back with back pay. Unless there is documented written proof of several write ups against you then the law is blatantly in you favor and lawyer fees would be more than worth it.

    Get a good lawyer and dig around to see if the company screwed anyone else over who can join your suit.
