Is it normal to get emotional over unlikely music?

I am a fairly unemotional person. I rarely cry over anything that's supposed to make you cry like sad movies, books, etc. But for some reason I get very emotional and tear up over the most unlikely music. Being extremely indifferent to the "crap-music" big labels throw into the listener's faces, I have collected a number of experimental/underground electronic musician's music that I'm pretty sure most of you have never heard of (look up Venetian Snares, Kingbastard, and Minilogue for some examples). Some of their stuff really hits my soft spot and it's not even supposed to be sad music. I guess I could blame it on my sound-to-color synesthesia, but it still leaves the question open. Does anyone else get emotional like this?

Yep, very normal... GOOD sad movies and books make people cry, its only natural that good music makes you feel emotional too. Actually, I think music has a big effect on mood, can change it very easily.

Nah, especially if you're a chromesthetic synnie. I have sound-colour synesthesia too and sometimes I'll be inexplicably brought to tears because music is just so good. Music is really the only thing that makes me cry, TV shows/books/movies rarely do.

Well I'm Bipolar 2 and have been a DJ for over 15 years now (yes I knew who the artists you named were, love Minologue!) and I sound exactly the same as you. People often remark that I must have 'special ears' or something to get out of records what I do. I have cried over the most unlikely tracks equally out of sadness and euphoric feelings of joy from one time to another (without drugs I would like to add!) Memories also tie to tracks with me and if I hear a track I'll go into my little 'zone' and be (in my mind) exactly where I was when I first heard that track complete with all the emotions attached to the track. I also find nearly all mainstream pop too obvious or cringe worthy. It's by no means abnormal, it's good!

Yeah. 'For those about to rock" By ACDC. Especially hearing it live. Gets me every time.

Oh. And "Welcome Home" by Dave Dobbyn.
