Is it normal to get embarrassed for tv characters?

I hate seeing other people be embarrassed, whether it's in real life or TV shows. Youtube video of a girl singing her heart out at a talent show and sounding like a dying narwhal? Can't handle it. Sitcoms are the bane of my existence, because it seems all situational comedy stems from embarrassing situations. I'll even cover my eyes or come up with an excuse to leave the room; and it doesn't help to tell myself that the people are fictional, that the actors weren't actually embarrassed. Does this happen to anyone else?

i used to not, but i do feel for certian characters now, especially if i can relate to them. if you can feel for them, then the writer did a good job developing them.

I believe it's normal. I feel the same way. I also hate when I see somebody getting tortured or killed on TV or in movies. Luckily I've never seen that in person.

Ahaha! I can't stand embarrassing moments on TV! I legit run out of the room or look away! Especially when they say something awkward and everyone stops. Ack!

Haha! I know what you mean! I've gotten better now, but when I was younger I had the hardest time watching Lucy embarrass herself on I love Lucy.

It's fine, and shows that you have a healthy sense of empathy.
