Is it normal to get depressed sometimes in college?

So, I started college not long ago, and at first I was really enjoying it and was taking on the challenge of getting involved in the main 'clique' in my class, but I found it to be incredibly hard. Most of the people in my class are really immature (17-19 years old) while me and about 4 older students seem to just be slowly moving away from them, dividing the class. I get so depressed about this because I really want to show the whole class what kind of guy I am but I always hold back on getting involved because I dont know them and it feels too awkward. Theres another class who are studying photography too and sometimes we get together and I have exactly the same feelings when I'm around them too. Its this horrible, depressed, insecure feeling and I just tend to not say anything to the class.

As you can imagine, being around hot girls and feeling like this is so ridiculously frustrating because I'm a funny larger than life guy and I'm perfectly capable socially, I just feel overwhelmed every day in college and its stressing me out.

You're developing your own clique for the more mature sensible students ;o) so why worry about the youngsters?!

Too little self-confidence!!! Also, it's not bad to be mature. You should open up to people, even just a little bit. If you don't feel like you are a part of it, go out and enjoy yourself, talk, socialize, get wasted and all that. After all, everyone gets stressed out by college at some point. Just remember that college is just a transition between high school and the rest of your life. It's 4 years of having sex, making mistakes and experiencing stuff. C:
