Is it normal to get bored of smoking?

I've been told my whole life by all sources of media that smoking is addicting. My dad is a heavy smoker and has been doing it his whole life. When I turned 18 and got my ID, I started smoking. I smoked a couple cigarettes a day for around 2 months, then I gradually started to get bored of it. I threw away the half pack of cigarettes I had and haven't smoked for about 5 months. I don't have any cravings whatsoever. People told me my whole life that once you start smoking, it's hard to stop. I didn't have any problem stopping. Is it normal?

Normal for people who have a couple of cigarettes a day. Try smoking a pack a day for 6 months and tell us how easy it is to give up.

Why don't you just stick with being normal. You've never been a smoker to deserve a hero's welcome home for quitting.

Started smoking at 13, and from then until 18(ish) I could smoke a packet a day, or nothing, and it didn't affect me. Then one time I ran out, and had no money to buy more. "Not a problem" I thought.

Yeah, right. I ended up borrowing some money from a friend to get a packet, and spent the next 25 years trying to quit. Even now I can't seem to say no if someone offers me one.

You were lucky. Don't even consider smoking again, it's like playing Russian roulette - sooner or later you'll have the one that will hook you.

You weren't smoking enough to become addicted: a couple of cigarettes a day is hardly smoking at all.

Because people are different. Most ex smokers I know struggled to quit. Some had next to no trouble. It affects people differently. People smoke different amounts and what not, but individuals will react differently.

Consider yourself lucky. You appear to be in a fortunate minority who has it easy.

As Ellenna pointed out. He wasn't a smoker.

She tends to gloss over details that would make it impossible to give generic, useless answers.

You got bored because it wasn't enough. You need a couple of packs a day to truly enjoy it. Your dad had the right idea.
