Is it normal to get annoyed when people ask about my tattoos?

It really annoys me when people ask about my tattoos.

"What does that mean?"

"Where did you get your tattoos?"

Come on! My tattoos don't "mean" anything and even if they did, it's nobody's business!

Where? As if I told you you'd "know" of the artist? The likelihood of someone knowing of any random tattoo artist is so small, I don't get why people ask this. If they're admiring the work and are looking for a recommendation, then OK, but most people aren't.

I used to actually answer these questions but it annoyed me so much that I just started making up stupid lies as answers. I'll say I got my tattoos in prison and that they mean various disgusting or disturbing things.

is it normal to get annoyed over tattoo questions?

What is more annoying than people asking about tatts is people who think they're too good to talk about them. Tatts are a visual thing, and as much as you try to pretend you have them 'for you', you have had them because they are visible. Stop thinking you're special.

some of my tattos have meaning while others don't. i find it 'bothersome' when people i don't know ask me about them. i don't mind explaining to a close friend, but when a 60 year old woman in church asks why you have a bunch of thorns going up your whole arm around to your neck, it annoys me. but let me quote her here for a second. HER: what is that? ME: a tattoo. (making sure she knew that much) HER: i know that, but what is it? ME: it's thorns. (are you happy?) (WTF does it look like? its exactly that. there's no hidden image, its meant to look bold.) another occasion when i was in the hospital one of the nurses asked what my wrist tattoo meant. it is a 4x2 black and white image of 8 squares. does she really want to know my deepest feelings, and thoughts on life, and my strongest emotions for getting a tattoo, all compiled into one image, or is she just making small talk? obviously the 2nd one. you don't go up to a stranger asking about their outlook on life and their religion, and emotions, so when did it become ok to ask about something that has the same meaning. i told her anyway, but BLAH, she had no idea what it meant anyway...

People might laugh at your tattoos
When they do get new ones in completely garish hues
I hide down in my corner because I like my corner
I am happy where the vermin play

Heh. I once made a girl really uncomfortable when she showed me and some other people her tattoo. It was in russian and she wouldn't say what it meant. After she made everyone feel bad about asking, I asked to see it again, then translated it for everyone to hear. Is that mean? I don't care. If you don't want anyone to know what it means, make up your own language and make your tattoo in it.

It's because people are curious. If you don't want people to ask, cover them up.

Strange. Most people I know who get them love explaining the meaning and why they got them (Are you an older person by any chance?). Repetitiveness is annoying, but they're not going to stop. Tattoos are a form of Art and expression; People want to know the meaning.

You got the tattoo in the first place for, i don't know lets say whatever reason. But its a fucking fad now so either black that shit out or come up with quick answers to put em off. If you the person with the ultimate original sick tattoo and thats why everyone pesters you about it, you don't owe them a real explanation (unless you just Really like the attention)

I don't have any tattoos, so I've never had to put up with this and don't really understand why this would be annoying. I just see it as them trying to make conversation, which is good, in my opinion. But then again, if it's repetitive, then I can see how that would become annoying.
